Publisher's summary

A spy...

My name is Charlotte Locke, and I’m an analyst for Section 47, a secret government agency that tracks terrorists, criminals, and other paramortal bad guys who want to unleash their abilities on an unsuspecting mortal world. I have a magical form of synesthesia that senses danger and uncovers lies - making me a stealthy operative.

I’m trudging through another day when one of Section’s cleaners - assassins - takes an interest in me. I don’t need my synesthesia to realize that he is extremely dangerous and that he will do anything to achieve his goals - even if it means putting me in the line of fire.

...and an assassin

I’m Desmond Percy, one of Section 47’s most lethal cleaners. I’m also a man on a mission, and I need Charlotte Locke’s skills to help me keep a promise, settle a score, and kill some extremely bad people.

Charlotte might not like me, but we’re stuck together until my mission is over. Still, the more time we spend together, the more I’m drawn to her. But at Section 47, you never know who you can trust - or who might want you dead.

Pop but enjoyable

Kind of like a piece of candy, don't look for depth or some incredible story. Just enjoy the ride.

Story is good, 1 narrator annoying

Story is different & I liked it. There are 2 narrators - 1 female & 1 male. The female did a pretty good job. The male spoke like a robot - annoying as all get out. The nice thing is that they did an entire chapter at a time instead of a back and forth in the same chapter so I found it helpful during the chapters the male narrated to change the speed to 1.2 and that helped him to not sound so robotic.

Jennifer Estep is brilliant!

Paranormal thriller mystery

If you’re a fan of Estep’s other series you will love this one too. Characters are well developed and the major protagonists are extremely like-able. Plot twists and action galore.

Entertaining

This is the first book from Jennifer Estep, outside of the Elemental Assassin series, that I have listened to . I thought it was a solid book and entertaining. She did not do the annoying things she did early on in the EA series (constantly repeating the premise of the book). It was enjoyable and I would not have minded spending the credit if I needed to. However, it was included in Audible Plus, so that made it even better. This was my first encounter with either of the narrators. I thought they did an excellent job.

Riveting. Danger Oozes Between the Scenes

I purchased A Sense of Danger as an Audible Daily Deal but it was worth a credit. I was very pleased with the underlying sense of intrigue, honor, danger & hint of attraction between the 2 main characters. It was refreshing to read a novel without the usual excess of on-scene/open door sexuality (chapters). ASOD contained sexuality but it was restrained. The story, tension, & characters were well developed. I had several ideas of how the story would end but the Journey getting there was riveting & worthwhile. The para qualities were fascinating - without delving into witches, demons or vampires, etc. I would happily purchase another audio narrated by Helen Laser & Grant Cartwright featuring the 2 para characters introduced in ASOD in the Section 47 world as they continue to pursue global bad guys. The ending wasn’t a cliffhanger but we know there are more BGs out there. I loved ASOD. This was my 1st Estes novel. I’m not sure the other titles/worlds would interest me.

liked story, hated male voice reader

The man's voice was supposed to be accented. Unfortunately, the actor could not hold it and was al over the place. Plus, it was down right creepy when he read the female parts. The female reader was pleasant once I got used to her southern drawl (5*)but the man was a serious negative (1*,distracting, irritating).

Outstanding New Series!

This book started out just a tad slow for me, but caught my interest based on the new types of paranormal characters. The story picked up and got better and better. It promises to rival the Spider.

Worth it

Definitely worth hanging on. The danger, danger, danger drove me crazy in the beginning. Once that was cut back a little the book took off. Love the paranormal aspect, totally different. In for a great ride.

Found a New Author

Had me right from the start! Good plot. Not a lot of over the top technical jargon. Story flowed. Will definitely look for more books by Jennifer Estep

Female narrator and story are great

The male narrator had the wrong accent for what the story and female narrator set up. I think they should’ve stuck with a single narrator. The story was great, I loved the characters, and I would definitely read the next one. I’m not sure I would listen.
