Publisher's Summary

Gabriella Starr has silk suits, champagne tastes, and a great new career. She also has a strange man following her around Boston. Two of them, actually. When she tries to chase down the first, she encounters the second - ex-cop and new D.A. Cam Yaeger. He's sure she's in trouble, but Gabriella bristles when he offers to help. She's way too attracted to him, and it's not like her to go for law-enforcement types anyway. She's far too independent, too naturally defiant. And she's spent too many nights in jail....

Cam Yeager likes cold beer, his Bruins sweatshirt, and shaving every other day. He knows all about Gabriella Starr, her eccentric father, and their years rescuing rare, endangered orchids no matter the stakes. Now something shady is going on in Boston. And something explosive is hovering on the horizon as well: the wild fireworks of two intense opposites falling in love....

It was ok

I have a full library of mostly suspense, mystery with a little romance novels. I listen to many Nora Roberts books over and over such as The Witness.

A Rare Chance was just OK. It just isn’t a good enough story that I would want to listen to it even a second time. I dozed off a lot and had to keep rewinding. Some parts were very interesting but some parts were very flat.

The narrator was very good.

Rare Chance

Hard to keep track of all the characters with no change in voice (all female) from the narrator.

Quit listening; couldn’t finish

When questioned about her dad being attacked & her boss still questioned her, then she dropped the issue about the attack, I quit listening. That was the compelling evidence. It became stupid after that.

thankfully it was free

I thought this book so poorly written and the story so silly that I ended up laughing about the stupidity of it. The book was free for me so I could end up laughing about it rather than feeling like it was a waste of money.

Jrenea60

This seems like it was written by a screenwriter. Characters under developed, I couldn't tell what the orchids had to do with anything. is there something about orchids I don't know. The opening was terrible there was not enough done to set the scene. Maybe if this was set in the forties or something. Story was so choppy. Not terrible but not good.

Horrible Characters & Story

The characters in this story were all horrible human beings who lied about everything. I felt like I was reading a terrible reality show that was so far from realistic I wanted to roll my eyes. Even the so called good people were nasty and garnered little sympathy for the situations they got themselves in. I could not wait for the story to end. It is a good thing this book was free or I would have been livid I wasted a credit on it. As it is I am sorry I wasted my time listening to it.

Could not get into

I really don’t like giving bad reviews but I could not get into this story. I was so bored and the plot was not very captivating.

Intriguing

I really enjoyed the mystery. I continued to wonder who was really trustworthy! It was a clean romance and would enjoy reading more of her books.

Interesting But.....................

I enjoyed the narration by Cassandra Livingston. The overall story was good and I won't spoil the ending. However, I could not get over how she always felt she had to answer Cam's questions as if he had rights for all information. It was as if she owed him explanations. I found this to be off putting. The attraction and love interest I understand as part of the story. Everyone relates to characters differently. I did not relate to Cam at all.

Twists Turns and Corruption plus Attraction

I wasn’t sure about the solo narration and the narrator at first, however everything fit after a couple chapters…and I finished listening in two days.

On the edge at the end!

A terrific tale

I really enjoyed this book. As it had more twists, than you can throw a stick at. Plenty of action and not at all mushy. Even though there is sexy romance.
