Story
The New York Times best-selling biography of an American comedy legend. After three years of sobriety, Chris Farley's life was at its creative peak until a string of professional disappointments chased him back to drugs and alcohol. He fought hard against them, but it was a fight he would lose in December 1997. Farley's fans immediately drew parallels between his death and that of his idol, John Belushi. Without looking deeper, however, many failed to see that Farley was much more than just another Hollywood drug overdose. In this officially authorized oral history, Farley's friends and family remember his work and life.

As this book's title suggests, Norm Macdonald tells the story of his life - more or less - from his origins on a farm in the-back-of-beyond Canada and an epically disastrous appearance on Star Search to his account of auditioning for Lorne Michaels and his memorable run as the anchor of Weekend Update on Saturday Night Live - until he was fired because a corporate executive didn't think he was funny. But Based on a True Story is much more than a memoir; it's the hilarious, inspired epic of Norm's life.

Since his first performance at the legendary New York nightclub "Catch a Rising Star" as a 21-year-old college student in fall of 1975, Jerry Seinfeld has written his own material and saved everything. "Whenever I came up with a funny bit, whether it happened on a stage, in a conversation, or working it out on my preferred canvas, the big yellow legal pad, I kept it in one of those old school accordion folders," Seinfeld writes. Story
The two-time best-selling author, comedian, actor, and radio icon explains the philosophy that has kept his existence boredom-free since the age of 13 - the love of risk. An avid sports better and frequent card player, Lange believes that the true gambler gets high not from winning, but from the chaotic unknown of betting itself. He recounts some of his favorite moments, many of which haven't involved money at all. In this candid and entertaining memoir, he looks back at the times he's wagered the intangible and priceless things in life: his health, his career, and his relationships.

Publisher's Summary
Debuted and currently #4 on the New York Times audio bestseller list!
Fifty-something David Spade is letting it all hang out. Older (yes), wiser (debatable), in A Polaroid Guy in a Snapchat World, the actor, comedian, and SNL alum reflects on his life then and now through a series of candid and hysterical (and occasionally cringe-worthy) takes on everything from why it’s getting harder to date younger women, to what it’s like being a dad now, to suddenly being the “old guy” on set.
Whether he’s musing on the alarming ease of breaking up over text (he’s done it), feuding with a teenage Internet celebrity (spoiler alert, he lost), or dealing with the friend from high school who became his full-time plus-one, when the star of Joe Dirt and Just Shoot Me unleashes his biting wit and dirty mind on the general freakiness of middle-age, he’s in a league of his own (not to be confused with A League of Their Own).
Written and performed for the Audible experience, Spade’s new comic memoir takes listeners along for the sometimes embarrassing and always hilarious ride of getting older in our fleeting “Snapchat World”.

Was hoping to be surprised; wasn't
David Spade is the guy everybody loves to hate, so I was looking for a reflective look into the actor's life. Instead, I listened to hours and hours of David's meanderings on meaningless topics and flimsy stories- I'm quite sure his life has had many more memorable moments, but the listener doesn't get to hear them. I was really disappointed. This book may be especially annoying to women. The often-revisited topic of David's small penis makes him no more appealing (this is not the type of self depreciating humor that listeners are looking for), and David's long story about his flacid penis exposes his self centeredness (if you can't get it up, maybe focus on HER). Long descriptions of pornography scenes show up for seemingly no reason, and we get David's opinion about men's view of breast reductions as though that's important. As an older man and father, I was expecting more mature reflections that placed David as the main actor in his own story with real relationships.

This book is such a good listen for when you’re running errands, driving your car to work, or simple things like that.
As David mentioned, it doesn’t add anything to your life, but it’s entertaining and light to listen to.

Cynical humor at its best!
If you are a Spade fan, or even if you’re not, this book is a witty take on life as it was and is now. As a 40 something woman, I appreciated the nostalgic SNL and Farley references, as well as the more poignant moments of Spade’s upbringing and early years. His sarcasm and cynicism are the perfect pair as he describes the many hilarious moments of his life as a “star”. While a bit raunchy at times, this book is worth the price and the listen. It’s laugh out loud funny in a world where we don’t laugh nearly enough. Thanks David Spade!!

Spade Succeeds in Spades
Lots of great comics out there- add a voracious online appetite that will swallow 10 years of material in a 45 min. spot, and you have near impossible odds of establishing a long term relationship with a loyal audience. Some have done it, always with a unique personality- able to overcome tarnishing time with its constantly new and shifting difficulty levels....
Lenny Bruce, Jerry Lewis, Carlin, Pryor, Dangerfield-modern comics at least have the shoulders of Giants to start off on-
Bill Hicks, Kennison, Hedberg, Louis CK, Chappell, Chris Rock....again, even given the amazing content, it’s the unique personalities that make for a lifetime friend-
And there you have the story and glory of Davie Spade- Trusting in his own personality to be his ‘character’, it’s clear that this shy and tentative person is never taking any chances by self deprecation, or self shaming; he’s got the room at Hello-
David is Everyman’s go-to hang partner. Like Gaffigan , Tom Papa, and (on a good day) Artie Lang, he can go for a couple hours and never approach a worn out welcome- He’s a welcome guest and a truly trusted comic- he’ll be around as long as he wants to be.

In my 20s, but still love it...
A lot of this book is geared at relating more towards those who aren't growing up in this "social media world". However, I'm in my twenties, and I grew up loving David Spade's comedy, so I wanted to give it a try anyway. I am so glad I did. There was a lot that was still very relatable. He's an amazing story teller in this. 6 hours flew by like it was nothing. I don't laugh out loud at much, but I really did at this, making myself look like a complete idiot many times. I would listen to him ramble like he did in this book for hours more! There are definitely some raunchy parts, but still hilarious. Such a well thought through look at his life.

Loved it
I was having Rules of Engagement withdrawal symptoms. This audio book was a welcome relief. Loved it. And being Generation X (just - a young X), I could relate to so much of it.
Love David Spade. I’ll admit I wasn’t a big fan until Rules of Engagement. Then ironically married a David who looks like him, is around his age and is (almost) as funny.
Thanks for putting this audio book together for us, David. It was an absolute joy.

Got exactly what I expected and more.
Six hours of David Spade talking about his views on life, intertwined into chapters about his career in Hollywood, experience in dating and giving us the occasional sound effect impression, makes for a very entertaining audio book.
Added bonus if you are a fan of Emperor's New Groove, as its exactly like listening to an MA rated Kuzco reading a biography out aloud. That's weird but also awesome.
I got what I expected and more, and I would love to listen to additional stories from him.
I was a bit sad when it ended. I'm also left with wanting to ask Spade so many questions about the stories he told.
Oh yeah! ...that's a Kuzco reference.

Heck Freakin Yes
Man, I got so stoked when I heard about this, (unashamedly bingeing David Spade interviews on Youtube), that I downloaded and listened to it immediately. Not disappointed. I love the realism. I'll be listening to this over again, for sure.

Do not use as “Fall asleep” Audiobook
My wife got rather annoyed with me - as i constantly fell into a chuckle whilst listening on earpods lying next to her.
This is highly enjoyable - especially for people from the Polaroid Generation!
Yet with some quite guiding foresight for the Instagram Generation too.
Delightfully politically incorrect!
Yours from Sydney, Australia,
Chrish
