I enjoyed this mystery

I was not drawn in immediately when I started listening. However, I continued with it and enjoyed the story. Listening to Agnes and Alan solving the murders was interesting. Agnes seems to always be in the middle of the crisis that occurs and gets help from a friend. I received a copy for an honest review.

Sound story, great narrator

A Mystery on Tyneside is the 4th book in this series written by Eileen Thornton. The narrator does an excellent job.

Agnes Lockwood is a widow in her fifties. She is nosy and direct. Alan, her boyfriend, is in charge of a large part of the local police. As usual with most law enforcement, he doesn’t want her involved in his cases. Agnes finds a body in the ladies’ room within the first few pages of the book. Alan and Agnes have a row, who will figure out who the killer is first? Also, Michael Andrews, Alan’s sergeant, has a similar disagreement with Sandra, his love.
Without giving anything in the story away, there are a lot of twists and turns while Sandra and Agnes try to get more information and solve the murder before Alan and Michael do.

I have only read books 3 and 4 but I wonder if Alan and Agnes will always have severe disagreements. I find that being right is petty. Either they can work past these issues or they should move on separately. This distracts from the story since the trick is used in both books that I have engaged. The other distraction is Agnes and her stubbornness. She has placed herself in harm’s way too many times in this story. A character flaw of Alan is the lack of faith in Agnes’s insights even though he grudgingly admits she is spot on.

I enjoyed the reveal and suspense at the end.

I like the observations that Sandra and Agnes make. I also think when the romantic couples are bickering, Sandra and Agnes complement each other in sussing out the mystery.

Excellent

Agnes awaiting for her detective boyfriend Alan to come to the high class restaurant for lunch. Finding a Special Service M15 body results of a execution murder in the ladies room.
Her taxi driver Ben asking if he had time for tea at the hotel where she previously been staying. Seeing a man enter now who’s face seemed familiar. Inquiring at the desk of who, an usual spelling of his last name.
While Alex is puzzling over the wallet contents the corner had given. A man with an unusual spelling of last name. Was he a Special Service M15 agent.
The plot flows as though one is talking with Agnes and the details of what has happened. Alan says stay out of it, but she has the time, curiosity and has helped before. A delightful series and one always enjoys knowing what Agnes is doing beside her love of Alan and shopping. Narration by De Oprah Balm added to the story, enjoyed and well done. Absolutely loved it

Narrator: Jamison Walker

This is an incredible story that’s interesting, riveting and keeps you guessing as to who the murderer is, There are many possible suspects especially in a place with as many secrets as Eternity, I don’t want to put any spoilers in so I won’t go into detail but I didn’t guess the culprit until just before sheriff Zack Tully realised who it was.
I’ll be looking at what else this author has written now.
The narrator has a good delivery and a chilling voice that’s perfect for this story, definitely a good bit of audio casting, I’ll also be checking out what else this narrator has done.

What a better way to relax and enjoy a bath than listening to Deborah reading the latest Agnes Lockwood adventure! Great narration of great stories, so good to be back with Agnes and the gang again. Lots of twists and turns, mysteries to solve and more character developments, what's not to like .... I mean love! Thanks Eileen.

A firm favourite

I really enjoy this series. I love the way the women are always ahead of the men in solving the mystery.
Alan doesn't seem to learn from his past mistakes and his attitude towards Agnes and her sleuthing was starting to get on my nerves. I'm hoping he'll be better behaved in the next book or I can't see Agnes putting up with him for too long! Maybe he needs a rival for her attentions to put the wind up him.
An entertaining mystery and excellently narrated.
I received a copy from the author and this is my voluntary and unbiased opinion.
