Publisher's Summary

Miss Marple meets Oscar Wilde in this new series of cosy mysteries set in the picturesque Cotswolds village of Bunburry.

In "A Murderous Ride," the second Bunburry book, Alfie discovers that he has not only inherited a cottage from his late Aunt Augusta but also a 1950s Jaguar. He is dismayed: for reasons of his own, he no longer drives. Aunt Augusta's best friends, Liz and Marge, persuade him to get behind the wheel again - but that's just the start of his troubles. Alfie discovers it's a seriously bad idea to get on the wrong side of the local police sergeant. Especially when he finds himself at a murder scene and the sergeant decides Alfie's the murderer. There's only one thing to be done. Alfie has to track down the real murderer himself - which will force him to drive as he's never driven before.

Nathaniel Parker, born in 1962, graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and went on to join the Royal Shakespeare Company. His television career began in 1988 when he played Flying Officer 'Flash' Gordon in the LWT mini-series "Piece of Cake". He is also the lead in the BBC series "Inspector Lynley Mysteries", based on the novels by Elizabeth George. Nathaniel Parker has an extensive list of audio books to his credit, ranging from the classics of Charles Dickens and Thomas Hardy to more modern writings and children's books.

Not as good as the first book by far, but not bad

Not nearly as entertaining and richly described as the first installment in the series, almost seeming rushed to be released. I missed the characters of Liz and Marge in most of this story. Still, narrated beautifully by Nathaniel Parker and fun to listen to.

Not my taste at all

For some reason the writer made a choice to make her main character a completely feckless and relentlessly self pitying idiot. The setting and theme of cozy murder I like, and I like the short story format but the protagonist is just unbearable to me. I would not recommend this story to anyone.

More, Please!

After listening to Murder at the Mousetrap, I immediately purchased "book" 2. I adore these characters and truly enjoy Nathaniel Parker's narration. I am giving it an overall rating of 4/5 stars for one reason only....the stories are too short! Please please give me more, Ms. Marchmont. In both stories I felt as if I was settling in to have a nice long visit with good friends, only to have it cut disappointingly short. Thank you for taking me to Bunburry. Next time may I stay a bit longer?

This was kinda ho-hum..

This wasn’t as good as the first Bunburry cozy. It was a murder mystery, but Alfie’s fear of driving was just too much. His wife died in a car wreck so suddenly his fear is unbelievably ridiculous. Then when he was forced to drive he was ticketed for driving too slow he was so afraid. His fear was brought up waaay too much.

Anyway, the murderer was found out and took off in a car and Alfie was forced to go after him and THAT got him over his fear. This one was rather silly.

No romance and no swearing.

As to the narration: Sometimes Nathaniel Parker’s female voices are fine and then they’re not. But he reads with such good emotions I can overlook that.

Exactly what it says - a cosy mystery

Thoroughly enjoyed the narrator - very soothing voice to listen to.
Engaging story with enough to keep you interested without being too intense or demanding.

More Bunberry please!

I love these fun, lighthearted romps. If you like cozy mysteries and don't need a load of graphic violence and sex to be entertained then these are a great way to spend a little time.
As far as the narration, let me know when Nathaniel Parker narrates the phone book and sign me up! He gives each character a distinctive, believable voice and personality and you always know who is speaking. Already loved him as an actor and love him twice as much for narrating these lovely little books.

Loved it!

I listened to the first book and was intrigued with the descriptive language. The narrator is excellent! The simplicity of the story is refreshing.

Not much mystery but still entertaining

3-1/2 stars: Entertaining, especially on audio, which is excellently narrated. However, the mystery in this novella is particularly thin (for lack of a better word). The last book had more substance in the mystery, this one is more focused on Alfie’s background and the mystery is a little thing tacked on about halfway through. Still, I enjoyed it. It was a nice way to pass a few hours.

Wishing it was longer.

Another installment from Bunburry. An inheritance that leads poor Alfie into another avenue for a death. Still a good listen an Nathaniel Parker's character voices make this book a good listen. Just wish that they would make the stories into a compilation, as they are only just 2 hour listens.
