Publisher's Summary
Number one New York Times best-selling author Charlaine Harris returns with the second of the Gunnie Rose series, in which Lizbeth is hired onto a new crew, transporting a crate into Dixie, the self-exiled southeast territory of the former United States. What the crate contains is something so powerful, that forces from across three territories want to possess it.
In this second thrilling installment of the Gunnie Rose series, Lizbeth Rose is hired onto a new crew for a seemingly easy protection job, transporting a crate into Dixie, just about the last part of the former United States of America she wants to visit. But what seemed like a straight-forward job turns into a massacre as the crate is stolen. Up against a wall in Dixie, where social norms have stepped back into the last century, Lizbeth has to go undercover with an old friend to retrieve the crate as what's inside can spark a rebellion, if she can get it back in time.
Number-one New York Times best-selling author Charlaine Harris (Sookie Stackhouse mysteries and Midnight, Texas trilogy) is at her best here, building the world of this alternate history of the United States, where magic is an acknowledged but despised power.

More please!
I need more books like this. I’ve missed Charlaine Harris. I gave her a break after Midnight, and I had forgotten why I was such a huge fan. I don’t know why, I’ve read almost everything she’s written and loved it. I hope we get as many of these as the Sookie books, not as few as the Midnight. She is one of my favorite writers and her words are crack to me. And the narrator was fantastic. She brought Gunny Rose to life.

Are you ready Lizbeth?
REVIEW PROVIDED BY: Kelly NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4 A Longer Fall is the second installment of Charlaine Harris’ Gunnie Rose series. A Longer Fall picks up a few months after the end of An Easy Death. We catch up with Lizbeth Rose (aka Gunnie Rose) and her new crew of Gunnies. We find them on a train headed to Dixie with a package. Dixie is not a place the Lizbeth would normally want to be but the package needs to be delivered. What should have been an easy sit on the box and deliver turns out to be not so lucky for the Lucky Crew. A train derailment leads Lizbeth and her crew facing enemy after enemy. But in the midst of all the chaos a familiar face emerges. One Lizbeth never thought she would ever see again. Eva Kaminsky does a great job again bring these characters to life. I really enjoyed having her read this story to me. I do hope that she stays on for the rest of this series. I really enjoyed this book and I am already looking forward to the next installment in this series. Lizbeth is a great character and I enjoy watching her grow as a person. I have high hopes for what might come next in this series. Note: I would recommend reading this series in order. I think you could read book two without book one but there is a lot of history that you will miss if you don’t. Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley, Edelweiss & Gallery / Saga Press in exchange for an honest review. This review is my own opinion and not a paid review.

Lackluster Second Entry
I was really looking forward to this book. However, this book had a weak plot, weak character development, and so on. Harris phoned this one in. If the third entry continues to lack creativity, then I’m done with the series. The narrator was also off in this one. She sounded sick gasping for air after each sentence.

Fantastic story and characters!
I just love this series and I hope there are many more books to come. Lisbeth is an amazingly strong woman and I want more stories about her. I really hope there will be more Eli in her future. I highly recommend this series it is fascinating and fun. The narrator brings it to life wonderfully and I am so glad I purchased this in audible.

love this series
I have both read and listened to a great many of Charlaine Harris books. This series is my favorite. I think I would feel that way if I read it as a physical book, rather than listened, however, this is one of the best pairing of writer to narrator I have experienced. When the pairing is well made a new book emerges as experience and the delite makes it hard to find where merit actually settles. The narrator picked a pace and control of the words that suits the gritty tone of the book. Charlaine Harris always delivers an adequate story and usually enough complexity in relationships to keep readers attentive to the words. The skill gives her latitude to be preposterous in story because the focus of her talent is both motion and stillness. Following her lead allows for surprise, fun, and sometimes a new look at human. This series is certainly bold in many directions and she has the skill to take the risk and deliver the story. Writer and narrator create an experience rather than just a story competing for attention with all other stories. It is a little more like music remembered with other songs. I will admit this story is of lesser impact than the first. Middle of a series is both a coming and going, so it is expected to serve as a bridge. I really hope this series goes on and on rather than reaching a destination in the next book.

First was better
The concept of Gunnie Rose is interesting but overall, this second installment didn’t grab me like the first book. I was interested until Lizbeth wakes up after the train wreck, Eli shows up and the crate is broken into. I ended up skipping thru chapters then listened from 19 to the end. I believe I’ll try listening again at another time to find out if they were legally married, but I just don’t have the patience right now. Kaminsky has a pleasant voice that works for Lizbeth, but she’s hit or miss on character voices and pacing.

Ginnie Rose Feels Real
I've read just about everything Charlain Harris has ever written. This novel ranks right up there with the best of her work. Rose is a fabulous heroine and her struggles feel so plausible, even (perhaps especially) given the fantasy elements of the setting. Victory is never easy and never complete. If/when she gets her happy ending, it will be because she truly earned it.

Not as Good as the First Book
This is Book 2 in the Gunnie Rose series - and while I hope there will be more I didn’t think the story in this book lived up to the potential of the series. Gunnie Rose is a great character but the story here is a retread of tales of the deep south and not all that imaginative. I hope the next book in the series will do justice to the world Charlaine Harris has created.

Great new series
So far Im really enjoying this series! I cannot wait until the 3rd comes out! The only complaint i have is that I think the plot in this book fell just a bit flat simply b/c it wasnt really explained and then when climatic event happened it wasn’t elaborate; it wasn’t detailed so much like the book is mostly written. Overall I am hooked and anticipate Charlaine will elaborate and perhaps build on what happened in this book with the third. Also, I LOVE the narrator!!!! Best narrator Ive heard in a long time!
