Publisher's Summary
Felix and Lane are trying out their new normal. Normal means no more car chases, no more drug lords, and definitely no more kidnapping bad guys. All of that is a thing of the past in this new, normal(ish) life style filled with family get-togethers, torturous jogs through the park, and the occasional romp in the parking lot. Felix is done stealing (all but for the cat). He is actually enjoying the boring side of life, especially with Lane by his side doing what he does best: looking handsome. But when Felix's brother wants to repair their relationship, he brings with him a secret that could cost all of them their lives.
Lane isn't complaining because the thrills of life-threatening situations are right up his alley. They may think they have a handle on the situation, but what they do not know is that someone has been working them from the shadows. Forcing them to do exactly what he wants as he drives them closer to his sick game of life and death.
Join Felix and Lane in a race against time, their only weapons being their humor and their wit.

This series only gets more hilariously amazing!
First of all....how to opine about Joel Leslie? He is an amazing narrator and the banter back and forth that is essential in this series is right up his alley. The first book is very action packed and the plot is convoluted due to deep undercover and police corruption issues. The second book is much more domesticated, same page, and too curious for their own good sort of tale. I loved the sarcasm, continued expansion of family members closeness and even possible future spawn (gasp!) the story meanders wonderfully and then gets Super Dramatic for the last few hours. Be prepared to want to yell at the characters as they awkwardly go out to investigate alone the equivalent of “what’s that noise?” in a horror movie and confront obvious villains.

Just listen to anything narrated by Joel Leslie
This book was pretty good, but not quite as fabulous as the first. You can't beat JL for bringing these characters to life. The bickering is laugh-out-loud funny. I think this story was a little convoluted, though. I'm hoping for book 3! Still a good listen and deepening romance. Recommended.

Great book..Great audio<br />
New author for me but wow what a ride. Hysterically funny. I was listening at 3am and trying to laugh quietly. You gotta get the audiobook. Only Joel Leslie could have pulled this one off. Good plot, funny, very well written. Characters feeding off each other - absolutely enjoyable. Kinda reminded me of Laurel and Hardy with who's on first. Hope there will be another. Great fun. Humor, Suspense, Great Narration
I loved three-quarters of this story. The humor, how wonderful a couple Felix and Lane are...I just love how perfect they are for each other where their strengths and weaknesses are completely complementary and their snark is unmatched.
Joel Leslie does a fantastic job narrating with great character voices, plenty of emotion, and a way of bringing the humor out and polishing it up brilliantly like a diamond for our listening pleasure.
Now, have I mentioned how much of a wuss I am? I am a big old scaredy cat. I don't like horror, I don't like to be scared or frightened or panicked or terrorized…I think you're getting the picture.
Unfortunately, I pretty much hated the last 6 chapters (not including the terrific epilogue), but that's because of the aforementioned dislike of being scared. And Felix is put through some pretty scary situations at that point. I hate any kind of "let's play a game" torture porn movies/books. It creeps me out in a totally anxious way that isn't even slightly pleasurable. I think if you enjoy that sort of thing, you'll probably absolutely love all of this.
Single POV, plenty of wonderful, snarky, sarcastic humor, and lots of suspense with a Jigsaw-level creepy bad guy, some action, and a happy ending. The awesome narration for this series by Joel Leslie makes these stories such a pleasure to listen to. I absolutely recommend you definitely check it out in audio for the best experience.
I certainly hope Alice Winters continues to pen adventures for Felix and Lane, but hopefully it'll be less scary (for us wimpy wimps) next time.

As good as the first book
As with the first book, this is a hidden gem. Exciting action, good relationship and I found myself laughing out loud many many times. There’s a psychological thriller element to this book too, but despite the fact that I’m not a fan of being scared, I loved it and found it exciting. This is so much better than the usual boring trope out there, and it’s refreshing to have a proper plot that hooks me so much that I listen to it all on my headphones in one day. Hope there’s more from this author on Audible soon because the two books from this series have been fantastic.

Felix and Lane kick psychopath ass!
Another triumph from Alice Winters. Felix and Lane are as snarky and sassy as ever and this acts as a perfect counterpoint to the Darkness of the story. Wonderfully narrated by the amazing Joel Leslie, he's one of my favourite narrators because if his versatility and range. Loved every second.

Hands down, this is one of the best sequels!
Hands down, this is one of the best sequels I have ever had the pleasure of reading and listening to!
Lane and Felix are still very much in love and are settling into the new home that *they've just bought, (*well, Felix did contribute $5, lol!), when Felix's past rears up. It starts with his long lost brother, Darian and soon escalates into a convoluted mind game that tests both Lane's and Felix's sleuthing skills. Through it all, the banter, the sass and shenanigans kept me highly entertained.
But, the narration!
Joel Leslie owned the story, lock, stock and barrel!; especially Felix. You will understand exactly what I mean when you listen to the opening wail (and I do mean wail) "Lane! ..." I don't know what else I can say about Joel that is not already known - brilliant narrator, versatile performer, excellent for knowing what a character needs and how to portray said character. Joel was meant to perform this series :)
What made this a truly an excellent performance is how he minimized the impact of the repetitive "he said", "I said" that peppered the story. The author may not have realised the impact of this for people listening to the audio. I hope that, (if there is a continuation of the In Darkness series), Joel will be able to give his considerable wealth of knowledge and advice on the editing of the audio.
I absolutely loved the narration and story!

Great second book
I absolutely adore Lane and Felix!
This second book is best enjoyed after reading the first but not essential it can be read as a stand alone, however I feel to really appreciate the relationship between Lane and Felix you would benefit by reading the books in order.
The snarky, sarcastic humour between the two MC’s is just my cup of tea and had me belly laughing.
Having a disability myself I know how important it is to be able retain a sense of humour without offending anyone and I feel the author Alice Winters, achieved this perfectly.
As for Joel Leslie, his narration was sublime! He was Lane and Felix, his comedic timing and performance was just what was needed for these two characters and I couldn’t imagine anyone else narrating this series of books.

Entertaining
I love books that can make me laugh out loud. Mission accomplished! So entertaining and such interesting fun characters. I wish there were more books like this. I am a bit sick of the same old vapid pathetic stories. I loved the combination of comedy, action and romance. The narration was so easy to listen to, I could see these characters so clearly. Thank you. I hope these two get to carry on with more entertaining adventures.
