Publisher's Summary

New York Times best-selling romance author Jude Deveraux continues her breakout Medlar Mystery series with a twisted tale of guilt and revenge....

The small town of Lachlan, Florida, was rocked last year when two bodies were uncovered in the roots of a fallen tree. Despite their lack of investigative experience, Sara Medlar; her niece, Kate; and Jack Wyatt found themselves at the center of the mystery, working together to reveal the truth behind a decades-old secret in the sleepy town. After a narrow escape, they vowed to never again involve themselves in something so dangerous - until Janet Beeson is murdered.

When Janet’s body is discovered, everyone is shocked by the violence of the attack. The sweet little old woman has been shot, stabbed, and poisoned, but no one can imagine who would want to harm one of the town’s kindest, most helpful residents.

Sara, Kate, and Jack are determined to leave this case to the professionals. But they are soon bombarded by townspeople eager to tell their stories and clear their names with the trio who solved the Morris murders. Even the sheriff is hoping they’ll lend their skills to a crime that seems to have no explanation and no motive. And once the town gets talking, they begin to see that there are more secrets buried in quiet Lachlan than anyone could have imagined....

Another Winner

I have read every word Jude Deveraux has ever published. This one was another wonderful story. If you’re expecting a gory murder mystery, this isn’t for you. It’s much more light-hearted than the mainstream mysteries but it’s told in true Jude style which makes it perfect. Humor, a little mystery, some flirting, lots of love and family.

Fun series and keeps getting more interesting

I devour Jude Devereaux's books like candy; they're great fun and I really love them. The mystery in this one really kept me guessing. It might have been a little confusing at times but by the end I was really into it. I love how the romance and crime solving are woven together, and it always makes me laugh how they stop to eat something delicious in the middle of figuring out their next moves lol. Oh and the romance element is heating up; I wish it would heat up faster, though!

not as good as the first

I really liked the first book, lots of fun banter between the main characters that made me laugh out loud quite a few times. Second one just didnt deliver that same feeling for me... hoping the 3rd installment is more like the first.

Even better!!

With the characters flushed out from the first book the whit and humor was evident earlier in this book. There were definitely bursts of laughter.

Too sad. Too sordid

I still enjoy the main characters but the story was simply too unpleasant to enjoy.

love love love it

Love this series! Susan Bennett does an excellent job narrating. I would love to see these as a mini series on TV or movie.

cozy with a nice twist @the end

excellent plot, well developed characters and a great ending with a twist... what more could you want? don't say explicit sex & graphic violence because that lack is why I read cozy mysteries... of which this is a cut above!

not as great as the first, but very good

I enjoyed the twists of this book. it wasn't as funny or answered the questions I had from the first one, but it was good. it seemed like the author couldn't figure out which direction to go though. the beginning part of the book focused on the budding romance, then it turned and only focused on the mystery. I wish it had more balance

Excellent Mystery !

I honestly did not know who did it until the end, and then....

I could not put this book down. As usual, Jude Deveraux did not disappoint! I also loved that it revolved around the same characters. we get to know and love these characters and revisiting them feels like coming home.

I hope Jude does another 20 of these books!
