Written with both the cred of a solo daughter in the trenches and the perspective of a hospice chaplain, with just enough humor to make a better day. That's enough. That's a better day. There are better ways for both of you to get through this. It's not easy, but in the end, it is about lives well lived...and that, my friend, is about bouncing well.
Resilience in the trenches of love is the goal for which this field guide was created because caregiving - your efforts here - change everything. You don’t have to be a perfect caregiver. In fact, it gets in the way. Caregiving changes the planet, but it also changed me - teaching some tough and tender lessons. As a daughter, I was in it, but now, as a hospice chaplain, I have some perspective on it.
Written with the cred of both a daughter's lived wisdom and a working hospice chaplain... It takes a lot to just show up in the caregiving of an aging parent or any loved one. This is messy work and inherently possesses minefields of unresolved stuff. (Stuff being a technical term for stories that got baked in deep before we knew we were in an oven.)
Grab-and-go inspirations are here in bite-sized pieces. There are my rules and gifts to you for growing a good life - even in the confusing soils of caregiving. Inside-out survival that is both practical and doable. Caregiving is love’s race. And that is the miracle of taking care. This book is about those more balanced choices.

Beautifully read, funny, and wise.
Caregiving or supporting a caregiver? This book is for you. Beautifully read, funny, and wise. I listened because I’m chaplain needing to learn about supporting caregivers, but I still found myself learning from her experience, humor, and stories within stories. If it’s not clear, I really love this book.
