Resumen del Editor

The world-famous best seller that brought new insight, hope and understanding to millions now available on CD!

Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross created her classic seminal work, On Death and Dying, to offer us a new perspective on the terminally ill. It is not a psychoanalytic study, nor is it a "how-to" manual for managing death. Rather, it refocuses on the patient as a human being and a teacher, in the hope that we will learn from him or her about the final stages of life.

On Death and Dying examines the attitudes of the dying and the factors that contribute to society's anxiety over death. It closely looks at the five stages of death - denial and isolation, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance - and how the dying and living deal with them.

In addition, this program offers multi-voice readings of some of the most revealing interviews Dr. Kübler-Ross conducted with her patients. By hearing some of the most intimate and sensitive feelings expressed by those men and women, it is hoped that we may learn more about death and lessen our own anxieties about the natural course of our lives.

At its heart, On Death and Dying is a truly remarkable program about communication - offering insight on how to talk with and listen to the terminally ill, and truly hear their fears, hopes, angers, and anxieties.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"This presentation of the seminal work in this field may offer new insight even to those who have already read it....They [the unnamed readers] like Bilger, are skillful and work well together. Their voices are well modulated and reflect intensity of emotion without being overdone. The abridgment is smooth, and the transition between narration and dialogue is handled well." (AudioFile)

When it comes to the death of a loved one, there is no easy path forward. Grieving can place significant mental strain on those who are mourning. And because everyone grieves a little differently, it can be hard to know where to turn for help, or what to say to someone who is in the throes of grief. Audiobooks on grief can offer insight to those looking for ways to support the mourning, or a bit of comfort for anyone struggling with loss themselves.

Corny… soap opera style reading

This audiobook is an example of better to read than to listen to. I couldn’t get passed the corny voice acting

Excellent Book

This book is one that everyone should listen to since we all must face death one day, whether our own, or someone we love. This book gives good insight so one can have more empathy for the one who is dying.

mmmehhh

not as good as I expected. I read Ross' wheel of Life and thorougly enjoyed it. I was expecting to learn more about how to prepare for death. it was nice to hear her describe the stages of grief which I learned in psychology classes years ago. It put it into perspective. Overall it was hard to stay focused and get into the storytelling.

Simply, brilliant.

I always wondered why this book was so highly regarded. Just had to read it to find out what a gem it is in many ways. Calming and gripping at the same time the way only meaningful literature can be. and this is certainly meaningful literature.

A Must Read.

If you could sum up On Death and Dying in three words, what would they be?

Frank, forthright and confronting.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The writer. Elizabeth Kubler-Ross.

What does Carol Bilger and cast bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

A wonderful sensitivity.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Don't be Afraid.

Any additional comments?

Excellent book, well read. It has helped me and many of my friends. It gives you an understanding and assists one's ability to confront perhaps the most frightening topic anyone faces, Death.

Informative

The different perspectives from patients is good to experience. I'm more knowledgeable in how to try and help a family find a little more peace before a patient dies.

Thought provoking read

This book is very interesting, it attempts to give us insight into the world of the terminally ill and dying person.

The overarching point to me is that the dying.needs to be treated with respect, respect for their feelings and their wishes. We tend to think of ourselves during times like these and think we are being selfless when in reality we are being selfish when we tell them to fight or do things for them or to them without asking for their input.
