Publisher's summary

Someone wants Elizabeth Bennet dead. It’s all Fitzwilliam Darcy’s fault.

Elizabeth Bennet wants the truth from Mr. Darcy. When she follows him from the ballroom to insist upon it, she becomes an unwilling witness to a scandalous scene. And for once, she cannot blame Mr. Darcy for disdaining his company, not even when he departs Netherfield in the middle of the ball.

When Darcy returns to London, he leaves both Miss Elizabeth Bennet and his growing infatuation for her behind--or so he believes. For soon, their paths cross again under the most painful of circumstances.

Elizabeth suddenly finds herself dependent upon Mr. Darcy. With the gradual unveiling of his character, she is surprised by a burgeoning affection for him. Will her heart survive their inevitable parting?

Thrust together out of necessity, Elizabeth and Darcy must discover the culprit responsible for their predicament before they are ruined...or worse.

One of my hands down favorites

This is the first book I read by Melanie Rachel on Kindle and I fell in love with her style right away. I've reached the point of buying her Kindle books sight unseen. This book is delightful because of a few things:

1. It explores the whole idea of a Gentleman's honor rather well, without being too heavy handed about it. Rachel shows the ridiculousness of dueling and the code of honor and demonstrates quite clearly what TRUE honor is.

2. The evolution of the relationship between Darcy and Elizabeth: They have delightful repartee and there isn't a feel of one-upmanship. They are two equals dealing with a dangerous and difficult situation. The trust they each have in the other allows for some rather delightful bits of humor.

3. Bingley and Jane: I was pleasantly surprised to see Bingley behaving badly. (Not a spoiler since it happens in the first chapter!) Seeing his attempt to create a compromise and force Darcy to marry Caroline foiled was well done. Watching Jane show a measure of steel to her backbone was also well done. I like how their side stories end, though I wouldn't have minded a closing mention of Caroline Bingley.

4. Regarding the narration, I love each narrator -- Harry Frost and Elizabeth Grace. Those two are in my top 5 favorites and I regularly search to see what they have out next. (I wish Audible would let you follow a narrator like you can an author!) Having Harry Frost narrate everything but the women's dialogue was an intriguing choice. It grew on me the further I got in the book. The wedding night dialogue was absolutely beautiful. It was a *chef's kiss* moment, Perfection.

So yes, I loved it. I hope for more of Melanie Rachel books to be put out in Audible soon.

A triumph

I read this book when it was first released. Great story with not the typical plot. Being that a read A LOT of P&P FF, I didn’t recall the storyline right away BUT… when I saw two of my favorite narrators… SOLD!

In the beginning the sound of the two narrators was a tinge off but it soon resolved itself.

Again, if you’re looking for a variation that has a nice twist and on the lower scale of angst, here is your next Audible. Some fluff, lots of Colonel Fitzwilliam and plenty of D & E.

Great story. Baffling dual narrators.

The story is interesting and different if maybe a little too drawn out towards the end. Still fun, though, and I would recommend it if the dual narration wasn't so weird.

The decision on 2 narrators is a bizarre one. The quality of the audio is different between the male and female voices so it takes you out of the story every time it switches back and forth. And then the voice actors approach scenes with different emotional tone. I would assume that neither voice actor listened to the others reading before doing their own recording. It gives the story a weird feel and made it difficult to get through, at times.

Loved this

This is one of my favorite books from this author, when I heard it was in listening form I had to have it and am very glad I got it. I loved both the voices, I thought they portrayed the characters very well. I hope Ms. Rachel has more of her books put to voice.

Worth the credit

Except for the female voice of Elizabeth a good listen. I bought this because of Harry Frost as narrator. The story is very well done but a little more description of people, places and things would have been appreciated. At first the audio of Elizabeth Grace was difficult to understand and sounded like it was done in another location unlike Harry Frost’s clear crisp sound. I thought Elizabeth sounded like a sarcastic imp not like a lovable harmless pert Miss. I found her character to be off putting with this voice. She’s always so irritable and sharp which isn’t a Lizzie Darcy would find charming. The writing is very good and the story held my interest and was well done. The Bingly’s are out of character but at least Jane is her usual fine friend and sister. I very much enjoyed this listen and find it easy to recommend.

Mystery, Rescue and Romance

This is a very enjoyable story. The romance was quite believable and full of tender moments. At the beginning of the book Lizzy is in very grave danger yet uses her wits and courage to survive. There were a couple of truly scary scenes. It is a well composed story that is not easy to figure out - a true mystery. Colonel Fitzwilliam plays a big role and is funny as usual. There is lots of witty and often comical conversation. Darcy is extremely likable, his heart captured and his judgement occasionally in question because he is not thinking clearly. He is in love but doesn't know it!

The sound is a tiny bit wonky in the beginning but not enough to detract from the overall enjoyment. The dual narration by Elizabeth Grace and Harry Frost was done differently from most double narrations. Usually chapters are narrated by one or the other narrator, with the male narrator also reading the female role, and vise versa. Both Elizabeth Grace and Harry Frost are excellent at realistically doing male or female voices, but this book was not done that way. It had the majority of the narration by Harry Frost with Elizabeth Grace popping in whenever Lizzy needs to speak, or when another female is speaking. This manner of recording worked so well in the Darcy/Lizzy scenes, especially the romantic conversations between the two of them.

Elizabeth Grace and Harry Frost are two of my very favorite narrators. The slight difference in the early sound quality was not an issue. Do not let this keep you from listening to a very well written variation full of charm, humor and a romantic rescue from nasty perpetrators. I hope Audible offers more of Melanie Rachel's P&P variations.

Narrators rock this!

I first read the story & completely enjoyed it but then the audiobook came out and with both Harry Frost & Elizabeth Grace doing the narration took this story to a new level. He took all the male parts & she all the female roles and the story just flowed. After a little bit you are sucked into the story and you dont even focus on who is saying what. I truly hope that these two continue to partner up and do more of the JAFF/P&P audiobooks!

Excellent and worth the wait!

i read the book when it was first released and have re-read it at least twice. I was hoping it would get the audio treatment and was so excited to find it! The narration style and the narrators themselves are so well done. I have zero complaints. I am a big fan of the author, and the narrators are two of my favorites. Worth the $/ credit. You will definitely enjoy.

Re telling of Lizzie and Mr. Darcy.

This one has has Mr. Darcy rescuing and taking care Elizabeth. Keeping her hidden after finding her unconscious and not knowing who tried to kidnap her. They fall in love. It's sweet. Lizzie is nice and not much of her family is in this version.

Lovely story

This was an excellent mystery as well as a love story. This Mr. Bingley was very much in character and got his just desserts in the end. I would like to know how Caroline ended up. Darcy and Elizabeth were true to their characters and deserved their HEA. Harry Frost was excellent as always.
