Publisher's Summary

"If you haven’t read Cat Sebastian, what are you waiting for?” (Lorraine Heath, New York Times best-selling author)

Once beloved by London's fashionable elite, Hartley Sedgwick has become a recluse after a spate of salacious gossip exposed his most-private secrets. Rarely venturing from the house whose inheritance is a daily reminder of his downfall, he’s captivated by the exceedingly handsome man who seeks to rob him.

Since retiring from the boxing ring, Sam Fox has made his pub, The Bell, into a haven for those in his Free Black community. But when his best friend Kate implores him to find and destroy a scandalously revealing painting of her, he agrees. Sam would do anything to protect those he loves, even if it means stealing from a wealthy gentleman. But when he encounters Hartley, he soon finds himself wanting to steal more than just a painting from the lovely, lonely man - he wants to steal his heart.

Ten Stars for Cat Sebastian and Joel Leslie

A GENTLEMAN NEVER KEEPS SCORE is so wonderfully written: smart, clever, droll, romantic, sexy and totally believable. Both the Sedgewick's novels are lovable but I think this is my favorite. But that may not be fair because I just finished this one and I was just as much in love when I finished the first one. Does that make me fickle? Cat Sebastian is a marvelous writer and Joel Leslie is a star. I feel like I've been on a wonderful vacation after reading these stories. And during this time of pandemic and safe distancing, one really needs stories like this. Thank you for your talents. I look forward to the next one. In the mean time I will be listening to these again. Highly recommended.

This Book is a Treasure

I adored this book from beginning to end. The story is so sweet and slow and had me rooting for the characters and their relationship right from the start. Joel Leslie does a spectacular job bringing the characters to life, from Hartley's posh and foppish accent to Sam's soothing cockney.

I love Cat Sebastian stories and this one is no exception! Sam is so sweet and willing to let Hartley go at the pace he needs to feel safe. And Hartley likes to think he's a heartless aristo he can't help but care about those around him.

Great story! I hope there's going to be more about the Sedgwicks!

Friendship, love, lust, and all the emotions.

The narration was fantastic, the actors made me feel involved in everything that was going on. Book one entranced me, book 2 insnared me in the storyline, I only hope there is a book 3.

The Sweetest Thing!

Hartley and Sam are the best heroes you could ever ask for! This book is achingly sweet and endearing and I loved every word. It’s about found family that crosses class lines, it’s about overcoming perceptions and hurts that can’t be undone. This book is everything you want in a romance, and Joel Leslie’s performance is the best I’ve heard in a long time.

Intense and Heartwarming with Just Enough Humor

I enjoyed this book immensely. After meeting Hartley in the first book of the Sedgwick series, I wasn't sure how I'd like book 2, but Hartley proved to be an amazingly witty, complex character that I enjoyed getting to know better. Sam's honest, caring self almost brought tears to my eyes at times. I'd highly recommend this story, but would like to offer a trigger warning for past grooming, manipulation, and abuse.

Solid bit of escapism

Not as charming as the first book in this series, it was an enjoyable read. Finding a book to set an interracial gay couple into this time period is quite surprising. I especially enjoyed the boxer and his strong sense of community. A few elements stretched imagination a bit, but overall it was a good story.

Listened late into the night

I enjoyed this story, though I had trouble with Hartley's growth. I think it started with Dog.

The godfather sounds like quite an abuser, though maybe not so much for that time and place.

Now I want to read Martin's story.

Amazing!

These historical romances are really quite beautiful. If LGBTQ+ experience fearvand persecution in this day and age I can hardly imagine the pressure and unsafety thry must have experienced in those times. a resounding 5 stars! I can't wait for the next brother's story!

Enjoyable listen

I enjoyed listening to this, even more than the first book in the series. I look forward to the rest of the series being published in Audible.
