Publisher's summary

Chris Gethard, the “significantly funny” (The New York Times) comedian, actor, and “cool kid of American hipster comedy” returns in a thoughtful and hard-hitting new show. Known for the critically acclaimed special Career Suicide as well as his unforgettable characters in shows like The Office and Broad City, Gethard is currently taking on his most prolific role yet: as a father. Charting the emotional experiences and revelations each new parent faces, A Father and the Sun is a hilarious ride bursting with palpable punchlines as Gethard tenderly explores generational differences, toxic masculinity, what it means to be a dad, and the truly unexpected joys of lawn maintenance.

This one’s a day-maker. Well done!

Husband and I saw this show live in Cudahey, WI and I’ve been waiting for this special to come out ever since.

Please listen to this if you have ever had a parent, if you ever were/are a parent, or if you ever were a child.

His storytelling is both funny and serious; heartwarming and real. The passion is there, and so are the jokes.

Chris also reminds us why it’s so important to intentionally live with kindness as our default setting in such an entertaining way.

Worth downloading Audible for this. Thanks, Chris!

Wonderful listen!

This was so fun to listen to! A great storyteller, Chris is funny, witty, and also heartfelt. And he tied up the story with a nice bow at the end that just makes you feel complete!

Totally Unpredictable. Funny. Heartfelt.

This one really builds. I've heard a lot of comedy lately and nothing has gripped me like this. You owe it to yourself to hear a well crafted art piece like this.

Absolute must for new parents

Beautiful and hilarious reflections on parenting. It left me in tears. I think that this comedy set (!!!) has spoken more to me about parenting than a dozen other books have. This has given me so much to think about regarding my own relationships with my father and my daughter.

Hilarious and heartfelt

Been a Gethard fan for years and he never misses. Check out any of his other books or his show (r.i.p.) on YouTube. No one combines the laughs, the raw emotion, the bizarre, and overall realness of the human experience better than gethard. Highest possible recommendation for his entire body of work.

Gethard at his best

I’ve been a big fan of Chris since TCGS. This is him at his top form: insightful, generous, moving, funny (obviously) and compassionate. The kindness he shows this subject, his father and his audience reveals his true character, an authentic human grappling with SOMETHING. Chris is always fighting for / with something. His story becomes our story. The underdog reaches his new form, father and we continue to root for him.
Also I’ve downloaded, but haven’t listened to Micheal Cruz Kanye’s Sorry for your loss which I’m sure is great, but this one’s probably better.

Papa Geth

“A Father and the Sun” from Chris Gethard is a really sweet and honest take on what it’s like to be a grown up/parent and the self doubt that comes with both. Geth presents the audience with the true and sometimes uncomfortable truths of being a dad that lets the listener know you are not alone in your parenting weirdness.
