Trained to kill from a young age, Gavin Lorren finally escaped that life. No more killing innocents. No more working alone. The jobs are still dangerous, but at least he can choose. Now an old friend has invited him to the city of Yoran where the work is plentiful. The Roasted Dragon tavern is rough but cozy. The regulars are seedy but welcoming. The owner, Jessica, is fond of him. It's almost too good to be true.

Alec began his 18th birthday with the temple monks. By day's end, he discovers he possesses magical abilities. Except his magic is unique. He doesn't require grimoires and incantations to cast spells. Alec's magic is entirely natural. He can, somehow, absorb the elements from objects and manipulate them according to his will. This power is incredible, but difficult to master. If he's going to learn how to use his natural magic, it'll take the tutelage of Archmage Diamondspear, one of the most adept magic users in the kingdom.

Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Story
After his town is put to the sword and the children are taken to replace the fallen, an old man is out for revenge. He’s ready to fail at the most difficult challenge in the world: cultivation. Too corrupted to even take the first steps, the sly old elder simply agreed with those who told him that it was impossible. Then, he quietly ignored them, rubbed his hands together, and started anyway. He had always failed in what he did. The only thing that had never failed him was his sharp mind and philosophy. He would cultivate...no matter what it cost him.

Publisher's Summary
A Fate of Dragons (Book 3 in the Sorcerer's Ring) takes us deeper into Thor's epic journey to becoming a warrior, as he journeys across the Sea of Fire to the dragon's Isle of Mist. An unforgiving place, home to the most elite warriors of the world, Thor's powers and abilities deepen as he trains. His friendships deepen, too, as they face adversities together, beyond what they could imagine. But as they find themselves up against unimaginable monsters, The Hundred quickly goes from training session to a matter of life or death. Not all will survive.
Along the way, Thor's dreams, along with his mysterious encounters with Argon, will continue to plague him, to press him to try to learn more about who he is, who his mother is, and what the source of his powers are. What is his destiny?
Back in the Ring, matters are getting much worse. As Kendrick is imprisoned, Gwendolyn finds it landing on her to try to save him, to save the Ring by bringing down her brother Gareth. She hunts for clues for her father's murderer along with her brother Godfrey, and along the way, the two of them will become much closer, united in their cause. But Gwendolyn finds herself in mortal danger as she presses too deep, and she may be in over her head.
Gareth attempts to wield the Dynasty Sword and learns what it means to be King, becoming drunk with the abuse of power. He rules ruthlessly, becoming paranoid. As the noose tightens on the king's assassin, the McClouds attack deeper into the Ring, and King's Court finds itself in an increasingly precarious position.
Gwendolyn pines for Thor's return, for them to be together, for their love to blossom. But with powerful forces in their way, it is questionable if that chance will ever come.
Will Thor survive The Hundred? Will King's Court collapse? Will MacGil's murderer be found? Will Gwendolyn end up with Thor? And will Thor finally learn the secret of his destiny?

Disagree with reviews I'm reading on this series
I'm reading a lot of bad reviews on this series. I am on book seven. I see where others say it is slow, but there are so many characters in this book if you want to understand how the characters came about you have to go on the journey with them. That is information you will need later. A saga is a journey. Like Lord of the rings. You have to take the journey with them to understand why they are what they are. If you don't like Saga stories you will most likely not like this book. I think it is very well done and I'm enjoying it very much. Hope this helps.

Predictably repetitive and unoriginal
This book was a continuation of poor writing. And there are 15 more of the same crap. I mean this is a case where the author will never end the series. There is always someone stronger to fight or not devious to battle.

Should be only 3 books for the series.
This is an easy listen. The characters are fun and the story, even though it could be for younger readers, is a fun listen. The problem is that the narrator is very slow spoken thus I had to increase reading speed to 125 in order to make it sound more normal. This plus the fact that non of the books really end a significant story line makes me feel like I paid too much for these books. Yes it is a series of books but generally speaking you can see a definite end to a significant part of the story. This is not the case with these. I think I will wait for the books to come out as a set and purchase then. I would like to have them all, but not at this price. It ends up being about $1 per hour. Too much.

Not a book that grabbed me
I found too many characters introduced too often and therefore was lost as to where the story was going. I still do not see how one of the characters fits in even by the end of the book. Maybe the next in the series will develop the characters more and how they interact I won’t be bothering to find out.
