Dull . Hard to believe this book was written by Ernest Hemingway. It is just barely on an adult level.

Simplistic

Hemingway of course. Same writing of short simple sentences and yet the dialog takes you forward enough it draws you in. I did have trouble with the narrator.

It is a classic story

The other reviewers were absolutely right about the odd affect of the narrator, and as my heading suggests I literally had to persevere to get past it and try to listen to the story. I would say that the narrator did a passable English accent of Catherine, except it turns out she was Scottish.. good try though. The story was, certainly by today’s standard, rather hackneyed but a passable account of the Italian front and the arbitrary and cruel nature of war.

This was my first book of Hemingway and it seems that everyone in the war drank a LOT; I’m not sure if I will bother reading another of his stories, but if I do it will be via paper.

However, do persevere and you may enjoy it more than me.

Persevere, it may be worth it

The narrator is horrible. His voice chokes off at the end of every sentence. Ruined the whole story. Stopped after 1 chapter.
