Publisher's summary

Captain Jack Hardy of the Royal Navy was focused on fighting the French. The bastard son of the Duke of Oxford, he never expected to be accepted into his father’s world. Let alone be recognized and raised to the peerage. Forced to give up the sea, and accept the responsibilities of a British Lord, he must now navigate a new maelstrom of political intrigue and unknown enemies determined to see him dead. To make it even worse, he has agreed to his dying father’s wish that he marry. A fate worse than facing a French brig’s broadside.

Lady Abigail Dupont has always been an outsider in her own world. Permanently injured at a young age, she has never been accepted in the vicious marriage market of the town. Disabled, unable to provide an heir, and poor - three unforgivable marks against her. It is because of this ineligibility that she is asked to help the new Duke of Oxford find a wife. A woman who could be a Duchess without driving him mad.

Two outsiders working together for a common goal. All while trying to discover who is repeatedly trying to kill the new Duke. Two people with nothing in common. From two different worlds. Yet two people who are drawn to each other for reasons they could never express but cannot deny.

A total delight!

The five G.L. Snodgrass' romance novels I have had the pleasure to read thus far are passionate and engaging with smoldering slow burn romances that are full of honour and reminiscent of old style epic love stories. All of this without being overly explicit or smutty. The pace is pleasantly fast in this novel and it commences with a poignant event that sets the scene for the brave, determined and resilient hero who in turn inspires our heroine to reach for life in all its fullness without fear.

I loved the book and the narration by N Omerod has a unique feel about it and carried the story very well. I will look forward to the Next Duke novel in the series. This is number 4 and was a total pleasure.

Compassion & Vendettas +18 read

One of the better stories from this author and as with her other books is geared for adults. This author leaves the bedroom door wide open and with the level of detail I would say it's definitely a +18 read. There were a few audio issues that need to be edited, there were several times where lines were repeated and simply need to be edited out. The narrator did an decent job and was pleasant to listen to but would recommend listening at a 1.25 speed. I loved more unique plot and the development of the main characters in this story. I just wish the ending had a bit more, as it ended a bit too abruptly, the epilogue helped but I still wanted more.

BEWARE. good book, BUT AUDIBLE PROBLEMS

Beware if you are using credits or buying for cash . Audible is evidently having problems with this series. Book 1 disappeared after I had it. Sometimes Book 2. this one.is available, sometimes it is not. I read 1 on Kindle and liked it, but series has Audible problems.
