Publisher's summary

Who knew taking my little mage on a date would be so difficult?

With so much change happening at the house—three shifter kids are a lot to handle—Mads and I have been too busy to spend much alone time together. So, I figured a date night was in order.

Too bad every time we try, we have to put a fire out somewhere. At this rate, I’m not sure I’ll ever get to take my mage on a date.

A Date To Impress Him is a fun MM urban fantasy companion novella and meant to be listened to after The Shackles That Hold Us (The Magi Accounts, book two). It’s from Cosmo's perspective and takes place between the second and third audiobooks in the main series. This is a companion novella, not a standalone.

Love Cosmo

Book: I am seriously loving these interludes from Cosmo's point of view. He is absolutely adorable. A big, fluffy lion indeed. This was a great story of what happens between all their fighting and veil tears. I also love that this is inclusive of the both the new characters and the rest of the family. Although a bit of a slow burn, the love of Cos and Mads continues to grow and Cos' patience is just swoon worthy. Love this series!

Narration: CJ Storm does a gruff sounding Cosmo. Love the sound of him and how it switches to other characters. I definitely wonder how he does this for a whole story, but he does it and makes it sound terrific. Love listening to this!

Cosmo's View

I love this series and I enjoy getting Cosmo's point of view for things. Madeo and Cosmo have different experiences in life so their views on things are different. We get a lot of Madeo's view so it's nice to get the other view. The audiobook of this just brings the story to life even more. I thoroughly enjoyed it and the wonderful narration by CJ Storm.

I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion

Love me some Mads and Cos!

Narration: CJ Storm is doing a pretty darn good job with this series! I’m not crazy about the voice for Cos, but it’s growing on me, and I appreciate that it’s easy to differentiate between the characters.

Story: I’m glad we're getting these novellas from Cos' POV to get to know him better. Its also super sweet how much he loves and adores Madeo. This story had a good mix of sweet, serious, funny, and romantic. I really like how realistic and relatable their relationship is, especially as part of such a large family. I'll be jumping into the next full length novel of this series soon! I'm really enjoying this series and all its characters :).

Love!!

Loved this perfect addition to the Magi Accounts series by Michele Notaro! This is one of my all time favorite paranormal series, it really grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go and this short novella is no exception. CJ Storm does a nice job narrating.

I love this series

I love this series. Since there is the danger of the witches hanging over everyone's head, it has been decided that two teams will work together when they go out on calls. Our boys pick McKenna's team as they know their mage Ash & Mads & Jude know him and like him. Also the shifters on their team are not too bad. They do go out on a call together & there are issues that will need to be worked on before they can work like a well oiled machine. And McKenna is going to need to get on board & change his views. At least he isn't anything like Anderson. I loved how just like everyday life, Cos kept trying to take Mads on a date, but things just kept popping up. I'm so happy that Mads is getting to feel more comfortable and see the pride house as his home & he can be himself. Poor Haiden has a lot of issues to work out & he is still so scared to let his guard down and just be a kid & not constantly on guard. I can't wait for the next book.

A Nice Addition to the Series!

This was a cute addition to the Magi accounts series. I enjoy that these small novellas bring us extra information that might be the main novels. I enjoyed the family bonding and dynamic in this novella and seeing Mads assimilate to the new pack he has gained. I look forward to the next book in the series. The narrator of this book could’ve been better. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Cute novella from Cos' POV

This is a fairly light novella that's from Cos' POV. He just wants to take Mads on a date and things keep popping up. I love how we get to see things from another perspective especially Mads. It definitely needs to be listened too after the first two or you'll spoil some of the main plot plus be a tad confused. It's a really great addition to the series and CJ Storm has really gotten into the characters! I love this series and highly recommend it to everyone but most certainly to those who love magic and a slightly dystopian world.

Not a stand alone novella that will suck you in

A Date to Impress Him is not a standalone — it says so right in the blurb. It’s book 2.5 in a series. So if you were to jump in at this book — and I’m not saying I did — then you might not have any idea what’s happening and why. The premise is great - just two non humans (an alpha and a mage) wanting to go out on a date, and, as you may guess, it really doesn’t work out as intended. Two protective members of the pride, Mads and Cos get waylaid with family/pride issues. I think anyone who has tried to make a date (or three) with their spouse which has been cancelled or interrupted with family emergencies will really understand and appreciate the struggle. And yet these two really put their family/pride first and in doing so we get character development (both the main MCs and the other family members). We also see movement in some of the overarching battles and world struggles, which I can honestly say Notaro is a master at writing and CJ Storm is a master at narrating. I love the tension between the humans and the nonhumans and how that’s especially displayed in, for instance, the hospital scene. (I’m not telling you more, that’s a teaser). There are parallels to some of our current social disparities without being “preachy”, and while still feeling like fantasy get-away novel. Bottom line — this is well-written, well-narrated novella and it will suck you in even if you haven’t read the rest of the series. And then you’re definitely going to want to read the rest of the series, so schedule that in appropriately.

Packed with action and information

You absolutely have to have read the previous books in the series to appreciate this one. I have, but it's a while ago, so it felt a bit like getting into a car after it has started rolling. But I got into it, and I had a great afternoon sewing to Coz and Madeo's aborted attempts at date night. It was an excellent combination of serious and fun, and had me riveted throughout.

The distressing reality of speciesm that the Ononai's struggle with is a great mirror to the many ways racism has and does affect people in real life. I respect and enjoy literature that shines a light on reality.

Lovely Short

A very sweet short, that shows the sweetness of Cos, and Mads, with life throwing a few wrenches in. Great narration too.
