Publisher's Summary

New York Times best-selling author Cathy Maxwell's glittering Marrying the Duke series continues.

Twice he has been close to the altar and still no duchess. Will the third time be the charm?

A duke can't marry just anyone. His wife must be of good family, be fertile, and be young. Struggling playwright Sarah Pettijohn is absolutely the last woman Gavin Whitridge, Duke of Baynton, would ever fall in love with. She is an actress, born on the wrong side of the blanket, and always challenges his ducal authority. She never hesitates to tell him what she thinks.

However, there is something about her that stirs his blood, which makes her perfect for a bargain he has in mind: In exchange for backing her play, he wants Sarah to teach him about love.

And he, in turn, has a few things to teach her about men.

Another Wonderful Cathy Maxwell Book

I haven't read/listened to a Cathy Maxwell book for some time now. I always loved her novels. Well, this book is another hit. As usual, the author brings all emotions into her story. Gavin and Sarah are both strong characters. They know what is expected of them; however, love prevails - as it should. This story is quite entertaining in itself and I was surprised by the ending. I loved it. Ms. Maxwell, please continue to give us wonderful stories.

One of Cathy Maxwell's Best

Cathy always writes wonderful characters and stories that excites and warms my heart. These characters and this story will take its place as one of my favorites. Can love be satisfied with such a deep divide between the lovers? That was my question? Loved spending time with these characters!

Cathy Maxwell is brilliant

I enjoyed this easy listen. Cathy Maxwell's wit and charm are showcased in this second in this series. I find our female lead believable in her quest to have her love mean something solid and I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a good actress getting her leading man!

Simply Perfect

I enjoyed this book. The writing is superb and no detail left out. The hero Gaven is multifaceted and swoon worthy. I found myself a little jealous of the heroine. Sarah is a strong woman with layers to her as well. I enjoyed this book so much. It is my favorite in the series. I hope everyone loves this twisting story as much as I did.

What fun!

Well written story, both romantic yet suspenseful, funny yet serious and overall totally enjoyable!
The characters have depth and quirks and well developed personalities and histories. I got to know them well and that says something.

I did, however, feel as if someone was just reading to me.
NARRATOR: Normally the narration is a performance with distinct characters and voices. While there was never a reason to wonder who was speaking there was also no moment of getting lost in the "movie in my mind" sort of experience. I felt like I was listening to someone read a book, not perform it. I suppose that isn't a bad thing, since I would rather enjoy someone reading to me than suffer through a horribly unenjoyable attempt at 'performing' it.

CREDITWORTHY? : In my opinion yes.

HEAT FACTOR: Warm... with slightly overheated moments tastefully included on occasion.

Excellent in Every Way

I liked this love story even better the second time I listened. It works up to a very Grand Finale. Standing ovation.

I've grown so fond of narration by Mary Jane Wells. She brings the story to life.

A bit of a rushed ending, but I liked it.

You can't go wrong with Mary Jane Wells reading! The ending seemed to have hurriedly progressed at least the chapters, into the final chapter, which I hated. Why can't me know more about their future together? Their wedding? Anything!

Amazing narrator!!

I love listening to Mary Jane Wells narrate historical novels. Her voice characterizations are right on the mark!! She brings each character to life within the story. There is a new audible coming out in Feb 2019 by Lisa Kleypas and I hope Mary Jane will be the narrator.

Happy, easy listen romance

The second book I have listened too by this author and narrator. Once again I found it a nice, easy listen romance, with the all important happy ending. The Duke goes against convention, the tarnished heroine wins her man - a good armchair listen on a wet day. I listened to it almost in one hearing as I wanted to hear the happy ending. I have not rated it a 5 as it's lightweight in comparison to others.

Loved these characters

The two leads were quite head strong but their reasons were clear, as were their decisions and motivations. I enjoyed their banter and how annoyed they were by their attraction but also that they behaved like adults. I loved the ending and adored the narration. Time and money very well spent.
