Publisher's Summary

Looking for a good clean murder mystery?

Meet Rachel Prince, a newly qualified police constable trying to hold it together after being ditched by her fiancé.

Rachel's best friend, Sarah, suggests that she needs a break and what better way to relax than a Mediterranean cruise? Sarah works as a nurse on the cruise ship and they plan to enjoy all the luxuries of cruising. At least they would do if Sarah ever got any time away from the medical centre.

Rachel makes friends with a bereaved, elderly woman and an attractive Italian but it's not long before she is convinced that something sinister is going on. There is mystery and threat surrounding Lady Marjorie Snellthorpe.

Who is the secretive Carlos and what is he up to?

Rachel finds herself in the centre of a mystery that could cost her her life, or worse still, her heart.

Has her broken engagement clouded her judgement?

Events unfold that cause her to question her sanity and when one of the passengers meets with a tragic accident, the tension grows. Rachel tries her best to relax and enjoy her holiday with her friend, but there seems to be danger around every corner. Is Marjorie in danger? Can Rachel solve the mystery even when she is in danger herself?

A nice cozy mystery

A nice cozy mystery on the high seas and you enjoy the main character and the characters she comes across like the rich old lady Marjorie who in herself was a delight. She needs a story of her own and you do kind of question her son when you first hear about him in the story and the company he associates with. Carlos was another questionable character, and you like, Rachel's friends that give her support when she needs them. It had some humor and quirkiness and it was really good. So if you ever get a chance to listen or read it check it out, you'll enjoy it.

Clean Cozy

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily leaving this review and all opinions expressed herein are mine.

Here, Rachel's fiance suddenly decides that Rachel is not his forever girl and he dumps her. Totally shocked by this, Rachel needs a moment to recover. Her friend works as a nurse on a cruise ship so Rachel decides to go on a cruise go recharge her batteries. While onshore, a passenger is killed - is it an accident or murder? Rachel, a policewoman, begins to investigate.

This is a very clean cozy with some Christian references. I liked the MC and story with several fun twists - although parts were a bit predictable. For me, part of the fun of reading a cozy is to be able to guess the perpetrator amongst all the possible suspects or characters in the story - here, that was not an option. Overall, it was an entertaining read.

The narrator did a good job.

Excellent vacation murder mystery!

This was my first Rachel Prince mystery book and it did not disappoint. Rachel after being devastated by a man takes a cruise by herself for a little rest and relaxation. Her friend Sara works as a nurse on the cruise ship and helps to convince her to get away. During the cruise she meets a sweet little old widow and they become fast friends. However as accidents begin to occur she wonders if someone is out to hurt her new friend. Mystery mixed with a handsome secretive stranger leaves Rachel conflicted. I really enjoyed this story as well as the narration and look forward to hearing more in this series! I received a free review copy of this book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Great, Kid Friendly Mystery

Dawn Brooke's Rachel Prince mystery series are a great easy listening and reading books. I have enjoyed the 2 I read immensely.

Alex Lee does a superb job with her performance. I can't really find anything to criticize at all. Great Character voices that do not run together. The differences between the voices is subtle but easily recognizable.

Superb job by both!!

First book in series

I was gifted this audiobook by the author with the understanding that I would leave an honest review. Dawn Brookes is a new author for me and this is the first book in the series. The book started off kind of slow for me but once I got into it I was hooked. I thought Alex Lee did a great job of narrating this book. I liked Rachel Prince very much and will be looking forward to another book to see where her life will take her.

More interesting then most Cruises.

A good story with a great setting and a unpredictable variety of characters produces good entertainment
and a worthwhile read.

The Narrator helps deliver the story and make the mystery at sea more interesting.

Unusual!

cosy-mystery, cruise-ship, suspense, law-enforcement

Beginning with the breakup with the fiancé and moving quickly through her qualifying for law enforcement, Rachel plans to take a break from reality and join her nurse friend who works on a cruise ship to the Mediterranean. She meets a delightful new widow taking her first cruise without her husband. And then things get real. Irregularly paced, but still a pleasant read full of misdirection, plot twists, and red herrings. I liked it.
Alex Lee is the perky voice actress narrating this comfortable tale.

A Cruise to Murder
: Dawn Brookes

When Rachel is 25 years old, she just qualified as a police officer. At the same time her fiance dumps her for another woman. Rachel's friend works on a cruise ship and talks her into taking a cruise. Here the reader gets to travel along with an interesting group of characters. There are enough twists and turns and false leads to keep the listener's mind turning. This is more of a cozy mystery than a police mystery. A nice clean listen, with a good setup for the next book.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed by Alex Lee.

Fantastic cost mystery!

A great cost mystery! I enjoyed the way the story story built up to the mystery. The character and story line were nicely developed! Great book, even better when you realize this is a the first book by the author. The audio narration was clean and easy to follow, not a simple fast with the abundance of characters! I look forward to more by this team!

Enjoyable read

I read this on audible whilst walking the dog! It was easy to listen to and was ok for dibbing in and out of over a couple of days. The story line was easy to follow and in the easy listening British crime that reminded me a little of a bygone time rather Agatha Christie like. I would recommend to others who like a non violent mystery with a couple of red herrings along the way!

Is there a murderer on board?

I have been listening to this as an audiobook whilst on a boat, watching the comings and goings of huge cruise liners, the size of blocks of flats. I've never really had much of an urge to take a cruise and the bigger these vessels get, the less likely I am to join one. I am quite happy to experience the pleasure second hand through Dawn Brookes' murder mysteries.

Rachel Price has just completed her police exams and qualified to join the force. She is also recovering from the shock of being dumped by her fiance, in favour of another woman, which has seriously damaged her self confidence. Her old school friend, Sarah, who works on board the 'Coral Queen' as a nurse, suggests that Rachel takes a break on board the ship, to unwind and relax.
She soon meets up with the elderly Lady Marjorie Snellthorpe, who is taking her first cruise alone, since the death of her husband. She also finds herself falling for a handsome Italian man, except that he is behaving very suspiciously. Rachel is not at all sure who she can trust.

I enjoyed this cozy murder mystery, assisted by the narration by Alex Lee, although her Scottish and Philippine accents were a little dodgy. Dawn Brookes does a good job of introducing us to the experience of cruising and it was interesting to get an idea of life behind the scenes. It hasn't changed my mind about joining a cruise boat, but it certainly made watching the ones near me, much more interesting.

On to book 2, Deadly Cruise.

A Mystery On The Ocean Waves.

This is a well written, artfully crafted and beautifully narrated mystery novel. The central characters, Rachael, a newbie cop on a vacation and Sarah, the ships nurse, are well rounded and very personable. The plot with its twists, turns and dead ends moves along at just the right pace. I was thuroughly entertained from start to finish.

Mystery with a carribean twist

Take a classic feeling mystery, mix in a cocktail and you have this fantastic story.

I loved the windswept and interesting locations we visited in this adventure, never sure if the people you met were really who they said they were.

The lead characters Rachel and Sarah, two old friends, I enjoyed how a cruise ship and a murder can’t come between friends

I enjoyed the exoticness of the locations , while I listened I could picture the scenes, always a sign of a well thought out book, I enjoyed the other major and minor characters

as I said a great twist on a classic who dunnit I would love there to be more of these types of stories, if anyone knows any let me know.

The narrator for this joyous cruise was Alex Lee and she does an excellent job of telling the story and making the characters come to life.

If you want a murder mystery with an exotic twist then I definitely recommend this.

Loved it

What a great start to the series.
Rachel is a lovely, kind character who also happens to be a police officer with a keen sixth sense for trouble.
I loved the old lady, Marjorie, and I was hoping that everything would turn out OK for her. I'd love to see her help Rachel solve a crime in a future book.
The mystery was very good. There were a couple of red herrings and it really kept me guessing to the end.
I can't wait to read more of this series.

Entertaining

A cosy murder mystery set on a cruise. I especially enjoyed it as I was listening to it whilst I was on a cruise myself. I didn’t particularly like the narration bit the story was entertaining.
