Publisher's Summary

Kat Jackson is successful despite her estrangement from her parents and the loss of her wife. She’s resigned to live alone while struggling to maintain her dream ranch. When she falls for weekend cowgirl DJ Callahan, she soon fears all she knows to be true may be a cruel façade developed for her own protection.

DJ Callahan is a corporate lawyer who lives in the moment, never limiting herself to any one relationship. When DJ arrives at the Jumpin’ J Ranch, she has no plans to become involved with Kat, let alone open the door to her own past, which bubbles just below the surface, threatening to destroy her entire existence as a “big city lawyer”.

Having everything she could ever want in life, twice, is something Kat never expected. When she gets a second chance at love, following her heart will prove the hardest decision of all.

Became too long

I listen to a lot of audible books. I have to say first of all I did not adapt to the narrator thru the entire reading. The narration was too fast ( I even slowed her down to .09) and I never felt the ranch/southern accent was authentic.

The story started out ok but I really became bored about the middle and felt like it was never going to come together for an ending. I rarely give up on a book and I stuck with this one to the end but it didn’t improve.

If I could make the choice again I wouldn’t waste a credit.

Lovely Book

Ms. Blake’s country romance is wonderful with twists and turns that were not expected. The synopsis is simplified and does leave out some interesting facts. For example, Kat and DJ’s past is more than what is told in the summary and it gives the book more depth and drama. Lula Larkin did an excellent job narrating the book. I definitely recommend this book!

Trigger warning

The supposed heroine of the story has controlling, & abusive tendencies.

If you know the slightest thing about ranching and/or the western lifestyle, this will make you sick to your stomach or hysterical laughing. It’s horribly bad.

People don’t talk or act like this anywhere but in cartoonish westerns.

The story wasn’t a bad idea, but the execution was downright horrible.

Main character is extremely unlikable

DJ is a terrible person. I don’t even kind of like her. She’s controlling and doesn’t listen to what Kat says or wants. She continually does awful things and feels bad for herself. I don’t usually despise main characters but she is trash.

Hmmmmm well....

A good story line, both women are as stubborn as all get out, but Kat needed to let go & maybe she & DJ could have gotten together sooner & well, DJ... She could have been a bit more receptive as well to find a solution for her and Kat. Kat keeps pushing Danni away, but she truly loved the woman & every time DJ TRIED Kat pushed her away want was DJ TO DO? Well leave it to little sister to force them together ❤

The narrator was excellent. The story was exciting and accelerating, keeping you wanting more.
