Publisher's Summary

When Wendy Harper inherits her family's beach-side cottage in Seaside, Maine, she sees it as a way to finally pay off the debts that have mounted since her husband died. But before it can be sold, the neglected property must be renovated.

She and her 12-year-old son Jackson move in - temporarily, she reminds him - in order to do the work themselves, even though Christmas is coming. The charming town, along with local craftsman Caleb Colton, pulls on both Wendy and Jackson, who even registers himself for school in a bid to get his mom to move them there permanently. Wendy knows that the most responsible thing to do is to sell the cottage and return to Ohio, but the lure of the sea is hard to resist.

if you like hallmark movies...

... but I don't. This has obvious plot, an annoyingly naive main character and a predictable ending. I haven't disliked a book and character this much in a long time.
The only brightside is the performance, with one woman doing 5 female voices or more and 2 male voices consistently.

Nice but predictable

A good book to listen too if you need a quiet romantic story. I was disappointed in the authors repetitive use of phrases almost as if she needed filler rather than expanding the story line or developing the characters. Skip this one unless you just need a clean squeaky fast read.

You've Seen This Before

This is basically just a Hallmark movie, in fact I'm sure it has been, or will be on the Hallmark Movie Channel at some point. All of the characters are terribly earnest; except of course the obligatory villain whose condescending attitude towards our hero (heroine) establishes her as the book's mean girl in the second chapter. Religion was also sprinkled around, particularly during the last 20 to 25 percent of the audio. It isn't a deep or difficult book but if are at all religious and/or sentimental you will probably enjoy this sticky sweet holiday celebration story.
