Publisher's summary

Can one wounded heart heal another?

Esther Thompson longs for a husband and a home, but nearing 30 and plain as they come, she knows her chances of having either are slim. Until the loss of her position as a governess forces her into becoming a mail-order bride.

After losing his beloved wife, Jeremiah Price is left with a broken heart, five children, and a farm to take care of. Desperate for a new wife to ease his workload, and after three successive brides balk at the prospect of such a large family, he insists on a proxy marriage for his fourth. Whatever happens, he needs this one to stay.

When Esther and Jeremiah finally meet, neither is what the other is hoping for. But they could turn out to be just what the other needs.

The Best!!!

I love these Proxy Bride stories and they always make my heart smile. Esther is losing her job as a governess due to the children she teaches going off to school. Searching for options her pastor suggests she become a proxy bride to a man with two children who had recently lost is wife. What she finds is a handsome man with 5 children who is still mourning his wife and cannot let go..
With the wonderful words by Christine Sterling and the amazing narration by Megan Carter, who perfectly narrates the voices and makes the story come alive, this goes down as one of my favorite audibles!

Fantastic

This is a great start to a series. The story and characters are great. They are relatable and have flaws, which I like. I liked the real emotions and feelings all of these characters had. I love the premise of this series as well. You hear about mail-order bride books all the time, but proxy brides? I look forward to the other books in the series.

8-7-20 I listened to this on on audio. I really liked this book when I read it, but listening to it was even better, if possible. I loved how the narrator brought this book to life. She did a fantastic job.

A Christian Romance

I enjoyed listening to this sweet story. The narrator‘a voice was very pleasant and not a distraction.
Jeremiah and Esther both were stubborn but they both had to learn to apologize. Jeremiah lost his first wife and didn’t want to give up her memory. Esther traveled as a Proxy Bride into a situation that she had no idea what she was getting into. Five children? She could hardly believe her eyes. Will Jeremiah finally learn to give his heart another chance? Will Esther forgive him for not telling her he had five children?
This is a short Christian Romance that lasted almost three hours but I sure could have listened another three hours.
I received this audiobook free but was not required to write a positive review.

A pleasure to listen to!

I surprised myself with how much I became invested in this story. I had never heard of proxy weddings (or plenty of other things in this book) before.

I would describe the overall experience as compact. The number of characters introduced are the exact number necessary to tell the story. This lends at times a cosy and familiar feel, and at times an isolating one. The audiobook itself is also compact in length.

Best bit: The narration was simply top-notch, on a par with the best audiobook dramatisations I've ever heard. Nice varied tone, great flow and distinct character voices, without any one character becoming a chore to listen to! Perfect if you're looking for entertainment in the evening while winding down before bed, or stuff on a daily commute. If this producer is involved in the next books in the series, I'll be checking them out for sure.

A few loose ends seemed to not get resolved as the romance picked up speed toward the end- I was dead curious (spoiler!) how Jeremiah had seen his proxy bride's likeness before she came to town, among other things- which makes the plot feel a bit messy. Perhaps I'm saying it could have had a couple more chapters! But still very enjoyable. The story was sweet, yet not oversentimental. I found the changing of people's reflections on previously rose-tinted relationships over time very true to life.

Another homerun by Christine Sterling

I was so excited to see Christine Sterling wrote this proxy bride a bride for Jeremy, I love her books they have so much common sense and solve problems like rational people. As opposed to thinking they’ve been wrong and acting accordingly they actually discussed their issues. When Jeremiah price Wishon and left heart broken by Lucy his betrothed because she ran off with his cousin Lee he Wanted a mail order bride, but wanted to marry by proxy so he wouldn’t marry for luxe. Esther was the one who answered his call the only problem was Jeremiah didn’t instantly feel attraction for her it wasn’t until overtime he became feeling close to Astor and found she was the real love of his life. Not to mention Lucy was blackmailing his farmhand with telling the sheriff in Texas whose son he shot in self-defense where he was. All you had to do was kill her husband Lee Jeremiah‘s cousin. This book was so good and as I said it was written by someone with common sense and with people who saw problems as normal people do. I loved it in a few love you historical romance you will too! This is a great Siri‘s and if you’ve never heard of it you should get acquainted. It’s awesome! Not to mention the narrator Megan Carter She did a wonderful job. I love her voice and think she is perfect for this genre. Please forgive any errors you see in this review audible makes it impossible for blind people using voiceover to fix the errors in their review and that would be me. So I apologize.

Wonderful Listen - Fantastic Narration!

A Bride for Jeremiah is a sweet historical romance that will hook you in from the beginning! For those looking for a shorter listen that will still capture your heart, I highly recommend giving this one a shot. The narrator does a phenomenal job keeping the listener engaged throughout the story by utilizing distinct voices for all main characters, consistently conveying the underlying emotion (even subtly during the narration), and narrating with a smooth and clear voice. Overall, A Bride for Jeremiah is a great pick!

A Bride for Jeremiah

This is a short but sweet listen. Esther takes a chance on becoming a proxy Bride when she finds herself without a job or a place to call home. While things do not start out on the right foot, there is potential...

Christine Sterling has written a lovely little story that fits very well with the multi-author Proxy Bride series.

Megan Carter’s narration was well suited to this type of book. A pleasure to listen to.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.
