Publisher's Summary

Imagine a town where the people perpetually live in the 1950s, a place where time has all but stopped and where everyone loves his family, job, and life. In this strange place, only a select few people ever leave the city limits, and even then they leave reluctantly. This is what 15-and-a-half-year-old Benjamin Granault faces as, through a string of amazing events, he finds himself living in a town where he can never talk about modern technology or current events, a place where being an outsider can cost a person his life, and being part of the community may very well cost more. Follow the adventures of Benjamin Granault in '50sVille, the strangest town Indiana has ever been unaware of.

50s Ville Series

The 50s Ville books are a lot of fun. Ibbetson has a very tongue in cheek style, that makes them dark and humorous, while not taking themselves too seriously.

Really Good Series!

This series has been worth taking the time to listen to. Every time I have a moment to listen I turn it on because I can't wait to get back to it! The narrator was a good fit for this story. "This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review."

'50sVille Vol4

After playing like he has 'become',Ben finds out just who and what are behind the town. This series is very good.Roberto Scarlato was a good narrator ,though I found his reading slow.I set it to 1.25 to seem more natural. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'

Thought so.

Although I had an idea of the source, it was still written well. I'm looking forward to the next to see what molly does.

Murphy's law

Ben finally gets a chance to find out more about the Source but that's when things really start to go sideways. Things start to get more intense when he meets the head of the Resistance ( wait till you find out who ). At home things are about to really get hairy. I really loved the book but the last part I really had an issue with because of my heritage. I received this audio book at my request and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

I was seriously creeped out last night reading this. Shiver.....
The narrator was good. Preferred the one before but still did a great job. Seriously creepy goodness. Last one tonight. Kind of sad it’s ending.

Almost to the end

I've listen to all 5 books in the serie in sequence. They are not that long and the story is pretty much continuous so I recommend to read it/listen all 5 books too. You will not want to stop in the middle.
I will review all 5 books and give stars individual for each.
The story is about a boy that every year goes to an event in a town that is stuck in the 50's. In the first book we get to meet this town and some of it's inhabitants. But then his father dies and the plot begins. For his own protection he has to hide in the town and live there under their rules (book 2). Those first 2 books were my favorite. As well as the narrators. The story reminded me of "The Stepford Wives" but in different way. The group of kids also reminded me a lot of Steven Spielberg films.
After that the story turns into a darker tale, when we discover the mystery behind the town. I think of it like a Edgar Allan Poe tale. I love them, the dark, the mystery, the danger, the thrill, the supernatural flare. The thing is they always seem to never go too deep, being just a tale. In here we still get a lot of complexity, and cool characters, but for me it never really suppresses the expectations created on the first 2 books. Still worth reading to discover the full mystery and the final chapter.
It was a petty that there is a new narrator for every book. I would have preferred consistency, being a small length novela. All narrators are pretty good, but totally different from each other.

Volume four

Oh, Molly... What have you done, finding a cell phone in 50sville? Guess we'll have to find out in Volume 5. I can't wait to listen so I can hear the conclusion of this strange, yet awesome, series.

I received this audiobook from the author/publisher/narrator in exchange for an honest review via Audiobook Boom.

Crazy. Strange, Heartwarming and Sinister

In this installment we learn more about the history and inner workings of 50s Ville. We continue to hear more about the reporter and his view of things. We also continue with Ben's adventure and dealing with the town and its inhabitants. The only way to describe this installment is crazy, strange, heartwarming and sinister. Is everything truly as Ben has been led to believe? How will he deal with his new revelations? What will Molly do with her discovery? These are the questions you'll be left with. I'm looking forward to book five to see how everything comes together. The narration by Roberto Scarlato was excellently done. He gives the characters their own voice and emotions. He has a lovely voice and reads at quite a comfortable pace. Overall, if you enjoy period Sci-Fi with a slow build and quiet suspense then this series is one you should check out.
