Very engaging, great soundscapes

I enjoyed the production of this very much. It allows you to hear the world of these vampires, but also use your imagination for a more in depth listening experience. Nice work. And maybe don't listen at night if you get scared easy. :)

Well done.

I have read the graphic novel of the same title and I think this presentation is well done. Parallel to the novel. Would highly recommend.

Awesome!

What did you love best about 30 Days of Night?

The story was just good! Loved all the different characters, and the reason the event happened where it did.

What did you like best about this story?

It was just a good story, a good idea for a story.

Which scene was your favorite?

When the "head guy" (trying not to spoil) came in to take care of things! His reaction was not what I expected!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes it was! Easy enough since it was only an hour-- but I started it at the end of the workday, then finished when I got home. LOL

Left With Mixed Feelings

No, this audio adaptation of 30 Days of Night is horrible by any stretch. However, I have some concerns regarding Audible's concerted effort to produce "Ear Movies". The voice actors are superb and the sound effects are beyond stellar. Yet, the narrative in this story is oftentimes dicey. And when you hear every actor explain what he or she is seeing, hearing, and feeling in great detail...well, who, I ask, communicates that way in real life? The tense in which the sporadic narrative is voiced feels awkwardly placed, and at times, completely contrived. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy listening to ear movies when they're done well. I'm just not sure I can recommend this hour long ear movie because the nearly two hour movie is just as well-acted with spectacular sound effects.

I’m Sorry

That I listened to this whole book. I understand the idea of trying different things, but to make this like a radio melodrama was not a good idea. First of all it was very hard to follow along in the story. Second, it seemed like the actors roll competent, and were good, but the choice to have everything overacted was ridiculous. It was seriously like in melodrama. Third, the sound editing was very poor. The narrators voice was set at a good sound level, but when switching to dialogue the sound softer considerably. It was also too much background jumping in chewing and gnashing of flesh. The actors in the background also have the most ridiculous of dialogue. I cannot recommend this book to anybody that I know.

A Messy, Unremarkable Adaptation

As much as I had wanted to enjoy this adaptation of 30 Days of Night, this Audible Original adds little value. 30 Days of Night originated as a best-selling comic book series, and was later adapted to film under the direction of David Slade. Either one of those formats is simply a better, and easier, mode of digesting this particular story.

While this audio production is only an hour long, the story is often muddled by unclear direction and a script that relies too heavily on shorthand methods to communicate the plot, as simple as it is. Given its roots as a comic book, 30 Days of Night has always been a visual production first and foremost. By stripping away Ben Templesmith's art or the live-action performances of the movie's actors and actresses, you unfortunately lose an awful lots of this book's appeal. Going by sound alone, I had trouble distinguishing some of the characters, which only confused matters more. The story skips along, hurtling listeners from one scene to another, but the plot doesn't gel. There's simply not enough story being communicated through dialogue and sound effects alone to make this anywhere near enough of a satisfying listen.

If you haven't read or viewed 30 Days of Night in its prior mediums, start with either the comic book or the film, and skip this audio edition altogether.

Love the Comic, like the movie and this is good

The original comic of 30 days of night is a very interesting take on what vampires are and how they'd react to news of a place where they could feed in quiet without having to worry about the pesky sun for 30 full days. It's also a fun story about a couple who was possibly falling apart, finding their love for each other again in the tragedy of a vampire attack. It's a nice short story for those who like the blood sucking remorseless demon type vampire over the emotionally sensitive and sometimes hopeless romantic vampires of the last 20 to 25 years. It also is a basic tale of human spirit overcoming the monsters in the shadows. 4.5/5 but since I can't choose that, 4 out of 5. The story has its upbeat and hopeful moments but only spoiler I'll give is: Not everyone is going to make it but the vampires don't get away with everything.

I really wanted to like it...

There's nothing wrong with this production, per say. Sound quality is good, sound effects and music are done well and it's narrated by a full cast (what little narration there is). There just isn't much too it. It's literally an hour of screaming and gurgling with very little substance except for the aforementioned sound design. Very interesting concept, but could definitely use a little more story.

Amazing!!

This audiobook was amazing on ALL levels. The actors and actresses had me pulled in from the beginning, the sound effects were believable and great. And there definitely were some jump moments!! I really wish book 2&3 were on audible!!

Chiller

Takes me back about 45 years to when I would listen to dark takes on the radio. Great sound effects.

Good but far too short

The performances are great but they have tried to cram in a whole story into 1 hour, it sort of works but seems like there is a large middle section missing.

Not worth a credit

An Audible Sigh . . .

It's an ambitious idea to take something bright and visual like a popular graphic novel and transform it into pure audio form. Audible have certainly thrown plenty at it and the cast certainly haven't held back putting pretty much everything they have into it.

Having listened to it though I can't recommend it. To my ears it was a jerky stream of scenes over-burdened with too many background effects and even though it is only an hour long I sighed inwardly, relieved that I could move on.

I can imagine that it might be a more interesting experience if you have read and liked the graphic novel first but without that as an audio production it's short, uneven and unsatisfying.

Of course with Audible's goodreads guarantee you risk nothing more than some lost time and not much of that! So give it a go if like me you feel curious but I can only say that I'd rather have listened to an hour of one of the many good audiobooks I have in my library,

Not bad at all!

All the bad reviews baffled me. I took a chance on this as I’m a massive fan of the film (not so much the graphic novel) and I thought this was a great audio adaptation! Give it a go!

Great performances and story. There's only so much you can do in one hour. Worth a listen and would have loved it to have been longer.

way too short, but a good performance, was hoping for much more. I wouldn't waste a credit for such a short audio book.

A decent audio adaptation of the comic book

this is a decent adaptation of 3O Days of Night with a great performance from the cast but this is hit and miss thanks to too many sound effects.

not detailed enough.

not enough detail on what is going on in the background. No luck detail in between talking describing the scene and what is happening too much relying on what the characters Passe to know what's going on.
