Publisher's summary

Veronica Welch has made it. She’s about to be named a partner at one of the most prestigious law firms in New York City. She’s on top of the world, except for one tiny ridiculous thing: She promised herself she’d be married by 35. After a drink too many, she accidentally lets her “life plan” slip to Bea, her steadfast, ever-meddling assistant, and now Bea won’t let the idea go.

Rachel Monaghan doesn’t do serious relationships. As a busy wedding photographer, she’s jaded about lasting love, has a thriving repeat business, and hasn’t had much luck with love herself. While bartending at her cousin’s bar, Rachel learns of Bea’s plan to get her boss married off by scheduling 30 dates in 30 days.

In this sophisticated contemporary romance, Veronica Welch tries to find love in the most efficient way possible while Rachel Monaghan avoids love at all costs. What could possibly go wrong?

So in love with this book

Everything I love from an Elle Spencer novel. Hilarious dialogue that makes me laugh out loud. Two people you can’t stop rooting for. A happy ending. And a bonus peek into Madison and Anna’s life!

I don’t know, this might edge out Casting Lacey as my most recommended book.

Maddening Structure

Loved the characters, loved the setting, loved the performance, liked the 30 dates concept and the judging someone based on their drink, but the Pacing! OMG, it literally waits until the last moment possible instead of the 60% mark like any normal romance.

When it finally happens, I didn't feel any emotional payoff and was instead kinda pissed off and felt like one of the characters could probably just walk away and do better, and that's something I Really don't want to feel when I'm reading a romance.

Great book, but it's almost 90% tease.

Put this one pin your favorites shelf!

Elle, as expected, did not at all disappoint with this new one of hers. It was sweet and included lots of laughs. Veronica, having locked in all her life's goals, with her final being to make partner on the horizon now, wants to focus on her love life and future family. She has the love and support of her family and her ever loyal assistant-who's in cahoots with Veronica's mom to play matchmaker-in her corner, what could go wrong? Rachel, is four years out from being hurt in the worst way possible and as a result, has sworn off love. She has a thriving photography career and doesn't let anything with a woman get past her 'three date' rule and she's sticking to her guns. As Veronica endures date after date in Rachel's, cousin's bar, anything is bound to happen and it most certainly does. This was a fun and entertaining story of familial love, budding friendships and one woman's goal to find love amidst another's goal to dodge it at all costs. Get this book today, and thank me later. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to have another listen.🤓

Wow This Was Cute

This book made me laugh and cry. I can’t believe how well written it was. I genuinely finished this in on day. I couldn’t put it down.

I took about 12 hours between finishing it and writing my review because I wanted to see if I still thought about it in the morning (I totally was). I’ll try and reel in my enthusiasm but just know that I haven’t felt this way about a book, especially a romance book, in a long time.

The story revolves around Veronica Welch. She’s about to make partner at the firm she’s working at and almost everything is going her way. Everything except her love life. She just simply doesn’t have enough time or energy to devote to dating and getting to know someone. Insert her assistant. She signs her up for a dating site and sets up a blind date for her. She get’s Veronica to agree to go on some dates (30 dates in 30 days) with different women so that she can find someone.

The dates themselves were hilarious and exactly what it’s like in the dating scene (at least it was when I remembered it). All the dates were held in the same quiet bar and the bartenders and local regulars start to take notice of what V’s doing. Especially one of the part-time bartenders who is a full-time Wedding Photographer.

I won’t go into too much more detail, but I thought that this book reminded me a lot of a better version of 27 Dressed. I would go see this movie if it was ever turned into one because it was so damn cute. The interaction, the drama, and the emotions were all spot on. I mean it when I said I could not put this down. I listened to it all day Christmas Eve and finished it in one day. Spencer has catapulted herself to the top of my list and I must listen to more of her audiobooks.

The narration by Lori Prince took this to another level. She slows down when things get emotional and speeds up when needed. Her narration really made this book fly by.

Score

I laughed out loud and cried during this story. Rachel was very lucky that Veronica was willing to wait for her to wake up and be happy. The back and forth nearly killed me. I love a happy ending and hope their story continues.

I absolutley loved this book. The slow burn was perfect and heart warming. The banter between Rachel and Veronica had me laughing out loud. I'm so happy that I listened to this one and it's one I'm sure I'll listen to again!

Slow start but great storyline in the end

The beginning was a little slow with the animosity between the two protagonists. It got more engaging after the middle when they realized their feelings for each other. I hadn’t thought this would be a nice romance novel after having given up on Casting Lacy previously. Lori Prince‘s fantastic narration gave the story much enjoyment, as always.

Slow but romantic

Had to push myself to finish. Cute story but it just kept trudging through. The narrator did an excellent job.

I didn’t find this story as enjoyable. Don’t regret it but will likely not think of this story again. Love Elle Spencer’s books. Thank you!

Great book

Really enjoyed this book. Excellent story and narration. Really liked the characters. This author loves a bit of “will they won’t they” which gets a bit frustrating at time (but maybe I’m too impatient!). Not quite enough filth for my liking! Defo worth a listen!

Brilliant

There is that question, when seeing so many 5 star reviews, as to whether the book really can be that good. Well it clearly can. I love it when the main story has both peripheral characters and story that also get you hooked and this book does that beautifully.

A date to remember

This is a good book and has a lovely story; the narrator was excellent as usual by Lori Prince.

I thought the two main characters were great and there was an attraction at first sight that turned into love, I would have liked them to get married as this was what the story was about for me. Saying that there was a lesbian couple that got married in this book which was amazing, I would say if I knew this I would have read “The Road to Madison” first, so I will be buying “The Road to Madison” as I would like to know their story.

I will say though for me it was slightly annoying how their feelings kept on being mentioned and they hadn’t changed so I didn’t understand why they need to be said again.

Love loved it.

Great story. Great narration. Really want a follow up on how Veronica and Rachel progress. I’m way to invested into them.
