Publisher's summary

New York Times best seller

After a sudden change of plans, a remarkable woman and her loyal group of friends try to figure out what she’s going to do with the rest of her life - from Terry McMillan, the best-selling author of How Stella Got Her Groove Back and Waiting to Exhale.

Named One of the Best Books of the Year by Good Housekeeping

“Poignant, funny and full of life, this is a balm for troubled times.” (People)

Loretha Curry’s life is full. A little crowded sometimes, but full indeed. On the eve of her 68th birthday, she has a booming beauty-supply empire, a gaggle of lifelong friends, and a husband whose moves still surprise. True, she’s carrying a few more pounds than she should be, but Loretha is not one of those women who think her best days are behind her - and she’s determined to prove wrong her mother, her twin sister, and everyone else with that outdated view of aging wrong. It’s not all downhill from here.

But when an unexpected loss turns her world upside-down, Loretha will have to summon all her strength, resourcefulness, and determination to keep on thriving, pursue joy, heal old wounds, and chart new paths. With a little help from her friends, of course.

What happened to Alison?
"When Waiting to Exhale came out in 1992, I was 10 going on 20, sneaking my mom’s copy into the bathroom when she wasn’t looking to devour a couple pages at a time. Nearly 30 years later, I still can’t contain my excitement over a new Terry McMillan novel. Instead of the heartache, unrequited love, and failed marriages the women in their 30s grappled with in Exhale, Loretha Curry and her group of 60-something friends face a new set of challenges in It’s Not All Downhill from Here : grief, aging, hip replacements, and more. I’ve long marveled at McMillan’s rich, husky voice in her interviews with Oprah over the years, and hearing her narrate is a special treat. It felt like I was catching up with an old friend over a plate of french toast (one of Loretha’s favorites), laughing out loud at the surprisingly funny inflections she gives the sometimes-grumpy diabetic grandmother as she finds joy in getting older, despite some painful losses."—Margaret H., Audible Editor

Wonderful story! Even if you are younger than the characters.

Good pacing of the storyline and wonderful tellling of the story. I did not realize the character were in their 70s, however I still enjoy the story tremendously.

To think I almost passed

I’m a big fan of Terry McMillan and for some reason I almost took a pass on this book. After listening to it I feel I would have missed a gem. I loved the characters and how she carefully develops them. Their like good friends in your life that show up for the reason, season, or a lifetime. I loved it and I could definitely relate to the storyline.

Once again another fantastic read!

I Love Terry! Her voice and her mannerisms reminds me of a very good girlfriend that I used to travel with who passed away a few years ago. I love Terrys books and reading and how she continues to bless us with her stories again and again...they are so real. All the characters in her books are hilarious!! I just crack up! Lol! Please keep them coming. 😃

Thanks Terry! 💕
