The Jerrod Series

Small towns are remembered with nostalgia, deep-seated anger, or parts of both. So it is with those who live or have lived in Jerrod, a small cotton-farming town in North-Central Texas. It is home for multiple generations of men or women with few opportunities to break the bonds with land, family, and hometown. Kilborn focuses on a third-generation native son, Drake Kilborn. Under his father’s tutelage, he learned to pilot spray planes in his youth.

Texas Ranger Freddie Espinoza is center stage in pursuit of the drug-smuggling county sheriff. Freddie discovers an old friend—and DEA agent—has the sheriff in his crosshairs. Their former Army buddy, a Benedictine monk in his final days, is also on the case in a very unusual way.

Scotty McTague and his wife have returned to Texas to run his dad's custom wheat harvest business. He left a job he loved in California to do this for his dad. However, he quickly decides this is the last year. Rain and fire ruin crops. A new banker in town intent on foreclosing on and then buying up land makes it difficult for clients to pay. Equipment parts become hard to get. The crew are experienced. The youngest, Pumpkin, is still in high school and struggling.

Dan Baker is loved by most in the small town of Jerrod, Texas. Everyone except Virgil Hooper. The animosity between the two families runs deep, spanning three generations, reaching its peak when Hooper loses most of his farm to bankruptcy. Dan outbids him at an auction for a piece of farm equipment, further fueling Virgil's hatred, sparking a brutal attack, leaving Dan with a severe head injury.
