Keeper

Shenshee Whooldan lives with her grandfather in the Celkee Forest until tragedy strikes and her grandfather dies at the hands of a demon. Before he dies, he confers the job of Keeper of the Portals on her. She has no idea what that means, since she didn’t even know the Keeper existed. After her grandfather’s death, she is sent to an orphanage, further limiting her ability to fulfill her promises to her grandfather. No one believes in the immortals anymore, the demon is stalking her, another orphan is out to make her life miserable, and her teacher seems to not like her very much.

After Shenshee and her friends send not one but two demons to the Netherworld, she feels she can finally relax. But Sir Torgus, her teacher that doesn’t seem to like her, shows up and demands she be schooled by him during the summer season. Zeela Slitten then claims that her grandfather owes a large amount of money. Zeela wants Shen to give up her grandfather’s cabin, but Shen refuses. Shenshee is then obligated to work for Zeela until the debt is paid off. Just as she gets used to the idea of not having a life of her own, she discovers there is another threat...
