In this episode of The Your Level Fitness Podcast, we take a deep look at one of the most common statements in the health and fitness world. The best program is the one you can stick with. It sounds simple. It even sounds cliché. But when you really unpack what that means, it holds the key to sustainable success.

I talk about why most people bounce from program to program and spend years chasing a solution that fits. For many, this pursuit becomes a lifelong cycle. I walk through how to use your experience, your preferences, and your own history with food and fitness to build something that actually works for you. Not just for a few weeks. But something you can build on for the rest of your life.

You’ve likely picked up a lot of skills and knowledge over the years, even if you haven’t reached all your goals yet. That matters. Your consistency muscle is real. You’ve already been training it. So now, it’s time to build something around what you enjoy, what you can do regularly, and what fits into your life.

If this resonates with you, I encourage you to explore the blog, sign up for the daily email, or dive into the self-paced Q&A video playlist. And if you want to take it a step further, join The YLF Experience and start building your inside-out lifestyle with some extra support.

    Episode Description:
What would your health and fitness journey look like if you started from a place of appreciation instead of dissatisfaction? In this episode, I challenge you to take a completely different approach to weight loss and fitness. One that starts by valuing your body as it is, has been, and will be.

Your body is going to change. It will get stronger, slower, more agile, and stiffer at different points in your life. The problem is that many people pursue fitness because they don’t like what they see in the mirror. And when that’s the fuel behind your actions, you end up chasing a standard that was never meant for you.

Instead, I’m asking you to build your approach from the inside out. Appreciate your body now. Appreciate what it’s done for you before. And still work toward what you want. But do it with a calm, deliberate mindset. Start small with minimums you can commit to for life, like fifteen minutes of movement a day or one serving of vegetables. Over time, those minimums can grow. But the power is in building momentum and trusting that progress will come from consistency.

You don’t have to do extreme workouts or follow a rigid diet unless you want to. But if you do, let it come from a place of self-respect and not punishment. This episode lays out a sustainable, preference-based approach to eating and exercise that can actually last.

In this episode of The Your Level Fitness Podcast, I’m breaking down something that’s been quietly sabotaging so many people’s health and weight loss journeys for years… the never-ending search for “optimal.” You see it all over social media. People promoting the perfect way to eat, train, and live. There’s always some new study, some flashy new trick, or some guru with an air-tight plan that’s guaranteed to work. And it’s always backed by “research,” right?

But let’s get real. If following someone else’s optimal plan was all it took, it would have worked by now. Instead, most people are left feeling stuck, defeated, and like they’re the problem when the plan doesn’t fit. What I want to help you do is flip that script entirely.

This episode is about helping you let go of what you think you’re supposed to do and instead start with what you actually like to do. That includes food, exercise, and even how you manage stress. I share examples from my own day-to-day like how I intentionally keep Pop-Tarts in my pantry as part of a bigger trade-off strategy. Because real life isn’t lived in a lab, and your preferences matter.

We’re diving into how you build consistency through small, realistic, and enjoyable changes — not by chasing the latest health headline or trying to guilt yourself into being more “disciplined.” You’ll also hear why I believe in addition before subtraction and how building your own eating and exercise plan around your name, your needs, and your preferences is the only sustainable path forward.

So if you’re tired of trying to force yourself into cookie-cutter plans, this one’s for you. It’s time to stop aiming for “optimal” and start building a life that works for you.

    Episode Description
In this episode of The Your Level Fitness Podcast, I’m talking about something that might feel harmless or even funny on the surface… self-deprecating humor. Many of us use it as a shield. We tell the jokes first so nobody else can. We make ourselves the punchline to avoid deeper hurt. I know this because I did it too. Whether it was my size or my cerebral palsy, I’d lean into the sarcasm and jokes so others wouldn’t beat me to it.

But here’s the truth. Every time you crack that joke about your body, your eating habits, or your workout attempts, you’re holding yourself back. You’re reinforcing the idea that you’re not good enough as you are. And while it may feel like a defense mechanism, over time it becomes a barrier between you and the life you truly want.

Your forever active lifestyle is about more than checking boxes with workouts and food choices. It’s about building a life that reflects how you feel about yourself. And if the voice in your head is still mocking you, it’s time to challenge that. Not with shame. But with awareness and practice.

That’s where the six minimum daily actions come in. That’s where YLF Thursday and this podcast come in. It’s not about perfection. It’s about showing up, every day, and reinforcing that you’re worth this work. If you’ve been hiding behind humor, I get it. But I also believe you’re ready for more.

If you’re new here and this resonates, go ahead and subscribe. If you’ve been listening for a bit and haven’t subscribed yet, now’s the time. You’ve got resources waiting for you. Check out the blog, dig into the Q&A videos, or sign up for the daily email and start reinforcing these messages every day.

And if you’re ready to take things further with coaching and support, join The YLF Experience. You’ll have my guidance on top of the self-paced tools, and we’ll work on building your forever active lifestyle together.

  • Why “You Just Gotta Do It” Doesn’t Work
    Apr 22 2025

In this episode of The Your Level Fitness Podcast, I’m unpacking one of the biggest areas of tension in the fitness and coaching space... follow through.

Who’s really responsible for making sure someone follows through on a program? The coach? The client? The truth is, there’s a lot more nuance than most of the fitness industry wants to admit.

We talk about why the “you just have to do it” mentality doesn’t work in the long run, especially for those who have been trying to lose weight for years or decades. I get into the layered reasons behind follow through and what really needs to happen for someone to not only take consistent action, but actually want to.

I also share the deeper side of coaching and what it means to help others build lifelong habits. It’s about fostering belief, creating a calm and deliberate mindset, and modeling what sustainable change looks like.

We also cover how emotions around food are more complex than we’re often told, why your preferences should be the foundation of your routine, and how to navigate the mental tug of war that can come with trying to change your habits.

If you’ve ever wondered why you’ve struggled to stay consistent, or if you’re a coach who wants to better connect with your clients, this episode gives you a detailed look at how to create real change... from the inside out.

    Episode Description:

In this episode of The Your Level Fitness Podcast, I’m diving into the gray area between the extremes we often see around food. You’ve probably heard both ends of the spectrum. Food is fuel so only eat for nutrition. Or eat whatever you want whenever you want because YOLO. But what about the space in between?

We explore how your relationship with food can be flexible, preference-based, and still support your health goals. I talk about trigger foods, how they develop, and how you can reintroduce them in a way that builds confidence instead of fear. I also share practical strategies for reframing old habits, like pairing those foods with something more nutrient-dense so you can begin disarming the emotional charge they hold.

This is all about learning to build a foundation that supports your forever active lifestyle. You’re not rushing to fix everything overnight. You’re learning, adjusting, and making progress over time. Whether you’re working through your food mindset on your own, alongside therapy, or through tools like the YLF Experience, the key is to do it in a way that works for you.

And let’s not forget, food doesn’t just have physical value. Some foods carry emotional or mental health value too. When you stop labeling foods and start building habits around your preferences, that’s where long-term change happens.

  • Make Daily Actions Easier with This Approach
    Apr 20 2025

In this episode of The Your Level Fitness Podcast, I talk about the powerful combo of showing up and taking the first step. Whether it’s your workouts, your food choices, or your mindset check-ins, the key is to take that small action every day before you have time to talk yourself out of it. I explain how I stack habits using cues and routines so I can start each day on track without overthinking. This is how I build consistency and stay connected with my goals, and you can do it too.

I share some real-life tips on setting up your workouts, prepping your food, and doing your mental check-ins in a way that makes them part of your natural rhythm. I also explain how stacking habits and starting “mindlessly” helps me bypass excuses and get engaged once I’ve already begun. Plus, if you're into the inside/out approach, I break down how I structure the resources in the YLF blog, Q&A playlist, and daily email to help you apply all of this at your own pace.

If you’ve read or listened to Atomic Habits, you’ll notice how this episode aligns with the idea of using small steps and habit stacking to build real progress. If you haven’t read that book, I definitely recommend checking it out.

This is a reminder that you don’t need to wait until everything feels perfect. Just show up, take that first step, and let your momentum carry you forward. That’s how lasting change happens.

    Episode Description:

In this episode of The Your Level Fitness Podcast, I’m talking about one of the most frequently discussed topics in the community… progress updates. We all have our own way of tracking results, but I want to help you create a system that gives you clarity, not stress.

Whether you're focused on the number on the scale or trying to take a more balanced approach, this episode walks you through a three-part structure for tracking progress. I recommend using scale weight, photos, and one simple measurement. Think of this like a three-legged stool. If one leg is missing, the whole thing wobbles.

We also dive into how often to check in with progress. Daily, weekly, monthly... it all depends on your mindset and your goals. I even share a unique approach where someone tracks only the losses from their daily weigh-ins. It’s all about finding what works best for you and helps you stay consistent.

As always, this is about more than just collecting data. It’s about how you feel about the data. If you’re spending more time thinking about your progress than it would take to actually log it, we may need to reframe your approach.

We also touch on how to transition your mindset once you’ve reached your weight loss goals. Because you’re not stopping once you hit a number. You’re building a forever active lifestyle, and your tools and structure need to evolve with you.

If this episode gets your wheels turning, check out the linked resources for deeper support. And if you want to work directly with me on creating your own structure, the YLF Experience is the place to start.
