In this passge Jesus prays deeply for His disciples and all future believers, asking for their unity and protection. He is then arrested, tried before the Jewish leaders and Pilate, and ultimately crucified. After His death and burial, the empty tomb is discovered, Jesus appears to Mary Magdalene and later to His disciples, bringing peace and commissioning them.

The remaining tribes are instructed to survey the land so it can be fairly divided, and the tabernacle is set up at Shiloh as the central place of worship. Joshua oversees the allotment of territory, ensuring each tribe receives its inheritance according to God’s command. Special cities are designated for the Levites, and cities of refuge are established to provide protection for those who accidentally cause harm. These arrangements bring order and justice to the newly settled land, reinforcing God’s provision and guidance for His people.

A relaxing list of boundaries and lands.

Caleb boldly requests the hill country promised to him, and his faith is rewarded with Hebron as his inheritance. The land is then carefully divided among the tribes, with detailed boundaries set to ensure fairness and clarity. Ephraim and Manasseh receive their portions, though they struggle to fully drive out the Canaanites from certain areas. Despite their complaints about limited territory, Joshua encourages them to take initiative and clear the forested land and strengthen their hold on what God has given them.

The conquest is marked by miraculous events, including divine intervention that ensures Israel’s success against overwhelming forces. The Israelites conquer Jericho after its walls collapse following God’s instructions to march around the city, sparing Rahab and her family as promised. However, their attempt to take Ai fails because of Achan’s sin, which brings judgment on the people until he is punished. With God’s guidance restored, Joshua leads a successful ambush against Ai, destroying the city and renewing the covenant by reading the law to all Israel. Soon after, neighboring kings unite against Israel, but the Gibeonites cleverly secure a peace treaty through deception, which Joshua honors despite their trickery.

In Luke chapters 1 and 2, the angel Gabriel announces the miraculous births of John the Baptist and of Jesus, preparing the way for God’s salvation. Joshua is charged with leading the Israelites into the promised land, encouraged by God to be strong and courageous. The people prepare to cross the Jordan, and spies are sent into Jericho, where Rahab protects them and secures safety for her family. Miraculously, the Jordan River parts, allowing the Israelites to cross on dry ground, and memorial stones are set up to remember God’s power. Once across, the people renew their covenant through circumcision and celebrate Passover, as Joshua encounters the commander of the Lord’s army, affirming divine guidance for the battles ahead.
