  • Conversations in Black & White Episode 2
    Aug 12 2020
Welcome to the GRIT podcast - Getting Real; Immersed in Truth.

We're continuing our 5-part series titled Coversations in Black & White. In episode 2, I talk to Tate, Missy's oldest son, about how his relationship with his adopted sister from Africa, led him to become an ally, advocate, and activist for people of color.

There are groups forming on Social Media and locally that are committed to continuing the conversation on race and racial reconciliation. Participating in one that has people of color in them provides for a well-rounded discussion. I’ve listed suggested authors to read.

Tate recommends anything by the following authors:

W.E.B. Dubois The book I’m currently listening to is The Soul Of Black Folk. Although published in 1903, it is relevant to today’s observations on race and American History.

The book Tate is reading Toni Morrison The Source Of Self-RegardBetween Me And The World Ta-Nehisi Coates

White Fragility: Why It's So Hard For White People To Talk About Racism By Robin DiAngelo

    I also Recommend:
LaTasha Morrison - Be The Bridge
Ken Wystma - The Myth Of Equality

Other reading that would be valuable relating to the plight of Native Americans:
The Other Slavery: The Uncovered Story Of Indian Enslavement In America Andrés Reséndez
An Indigenous Peoples' History Of The United States (REVISIONING HISTORY Book 3) By Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz (Author) To Learn More About Teach For America Visit Their Site

Since this interview, Colleen and Mo are off to another divine assignment in New York City, where Mo will be a church planting catalyst. Please pray God’s mercy, grace and blessing over them.

How does a person who is raised to dislike other races and another who was distrusting of white people find each other? How does a person change their perspective from that of their family of origin? How should brothers and sisters in Christ respond to racism? These questions and more we’ll explore While Getting Real immersed in Truth. The theme of Redemption is weaved all throughout Ken and Gigi’s story. It’s visible in they’re personal stories and in they’re story as a couple. They have seen what God can do and how the love of Christ can change hearts. I will pray alongside them and ask you to join me as we pray for opened eyes, changed hearts, healing for each other, our country, and around the world.

  • Self-Care Emotional and Spiritual Soul Care Episode 8 Part 1
    Oct 13 2020
Welcome G.R.I.T Podcast Getting Real Immersed in Truth Intersecting hard conversations with the gospel. We seek and speak the truth about what’s going on around us. I am your host Robrenna Redl. As we've mentioned in previous episodes, 2020 has brought difficulties and challenges at a rapid pace and in a consistent manner. It seems like events continue to overwhelm us. Many of us have experienced quite a bit of loss, uncertainty, and financial hardship. These experiences may lead us to wonder why. Why am I going through this? We may ask, does God see us? Does he hear us? Some of us sit in the truth God is Sovereign, while others may experience anger, and frustration towards God. And you what that’s okay. The stress many of us are under has caused emotional pains and heartache. How do we process our roller coaster of emotions right now and move toward the promise of hope?
