  • Shame, Blame & Self-Compassion in Trauma Recovery 💔🌸
    Jun 24 2025

In this heartfelt episode, Jaime explores one of the most painful and often overlooked parts of trauma: the lingering burden of shame and self-blame. Many survivors — whether from childhood abuse, domestic violence, or other traumatic events — carry the false belief that they were responsible for what happened to them. These thoughts often stem from manipulation by abusers, societal stigma, or the brain’s own attempt to make sense of the pain.

    🧠 Jaime breaks down:

    • Why survivors often blame themselves — even when they "know better"

    • How fight, flight, and freeze responses are survival, not weakness

    • The damaging myths around trauma and responsibility

    • Why compassion, not judgment, is the true key to healing

💗 The episode closes with a gentle, guided self-compassion meditation — offering listeners a moment of calm, grounding, and the chance to begin speaking to themselves with kindness.

You are not to blame. You are not broken.
You are surviving — and you deserve your own care, just as much as anyone else.

  • Intensive Therapy - Trauma - EMDR - CBT - How does it work?
    Mar 10 2025

Trauma can cast a long shadow, but intensive therapy offers a way to step into the light and reclaim your life. Combining the transformative power of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) with the practicality of CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), this approach creates a dynamic path to healing that is both comprehensive and empowering.

At the heart of EMDR is a remarkable technique that uses bilateral stimulation—like guided eye movements—to gently and effectively process distressing memories. It helps rewire the brain’s response to trauma, allowing you to release the hold that past experiences may have on your present. The result? A clearer, more peaceful mind, free from the weight of unresolved pain.

On the other hand, CBT steps in as the ultimate toolkit for building resilience and emotional strength. By identifying negative thought patterns and replacing them with healthier, more constructive ways of thinking, CBT equips you to manage anxiety, depression, and other challenges that can accompany trauma. It’s a therapy that doesn’t just heal—it empowers, giving you the skills to navigate life’s complexities with confidence and clarity.

When used together, EMDR and CBT complement each other beautifully. While EMDR focuses on resolving deep-rooted emotional scars, CBT provides the practical strategies needed to cope, thrive, and rebuild. Intensive therapy condenses this powerful combination into a focused timeframe, offering faster relief and profound transformation. It’s a journey of self-discovery, growth, and renewed strength—a chance to turn the page and start a new chapter.

Join me on this empowering journey as we unravel the complexities of traumaand provide insights, resources, and hope for those seeking healing and transformation.

  • Unveiling Trauma: the Mind and Body effects
    Jul 24 2023

This Episode is the second on the series. It explores the lasting impact of traumatic events on mental health and well-being.

Very briefly we discover the automatic coping responses our minds and bodies have developed over thousands of years: fighting, fleeing, freezing, submitting, and dissociating. Gain insight into the brain's intricate processing of trauma through the thalamus, amygdala, and hippocampus. The thalamus acts as a gatekeeper, assessing information for threats and signalling the amygdala. The amygdala, the brain's alarm centre, releases stress hormones to prepare the body for action. The hippocampus, like a filing clerk, compares traumatic memories to determine the level of threat. Understand how trauma memories are stored differently, causing confusion and strong emotions.

Experience how triggering a traumatic memory activates the amygdala, leading to the release of stress hormones and feelings of terror or numbness. Join us on this transformative journey as we delve into the complexities of trauma and its effects on our minds and bodies.

  • An Overview of ADHD – Causes, Presentation, Assessment, Treatment and Suggestions for Employment Support
    Jun 20 2023

There have been more discussions about ADHD, and some people has contacted me about further information.

Not knowing enough, decided to invite a professional, Ryan W., who works in a Child and Young People Services, and is a nurse prescriber and assessor of ADHD.

In an informal way, we will have a discussion on ADHD and elements such as possible causes, what looks like in adults and children, and how may be assessed.

We explore some recent documentaries on ADHD private clinics and look at what is Ryan’s view on this.

As I say in the episode, I am not expert on ADHD and therapies for it, and I am learning as much as you will.

We try not to be too technical, and use little jargon, sometimes hard to do so. If you need some clarification, please drop me an email to podcast@online-cbt.com .

This podcast is informational, and we advise you to seek support through a professional that is registered with a governing body (NMC, GMC, HCPC), and visit your general practitioner to enquiry about private referrals if you wish.

Please follow me or like the podcast if you wish, and share it with others.
