  • Elaine is scarily optimistic
    Apr 8 2026

Note! We had a recording issue sadly during this episode where we had a SD Card fault. These things happen. Thankfully we only lost about 20 seconds of audio! Have put a little tone in when it happened, but thankfully we changed cards and hit go and finished the podcast!

Elaine Reilly joined me for a very over due chat. Have wanted to get her on here for ever. Such a cool person to talk to with a lifetime of great experience and knowledge! One of those people you could easily chat to for ages.

And got to hand it to her, she had a hard day, and still showed up to record! What a star!

We talk about leaving Scotland for New Zealand, holding a psycology degree and what it has taught her, and the work she does for REAP Tararua, including bringing in New Zealand comedy and education guru John Carr!

PLUS we debut the new and exciting quick fire round.

If you want to know more about REAP and the awesome work they do, check them out! https://www.reapaotearoa.nz/

And if you are in Tararua, you can get in learn more from Elaines awesome team here https://www.tararuareap.co.nz/

They do amazing work for the rural community

  • Siobhan learns not to work with animals and children
    Dec 11 2025

I hope you like hearing kids screaming!

I got to catch up with multiple BYJ guest Siobhan and talk about her new job, moving to a new town, and being back in the South Island.

We also talk about some of the amazing animals she works with, many of them native to NZ and endangered.

Then it all kind of goes wrong when Brecken busts into the room and pretty much takes over the whole darn podcast.

Kids. Not much more to say.

We also pay tribute to Kels on the eve of 1 year since we lost him. He would have handled my son way better then I did lol

  • CJ's Joyful Journey
    Oct 4 2025

    Badda boom — I’m back!
It’s been tough picking up the mics since we lost Kels. Some days, they feel like they weigh a thousand kilos. Hitting record without hearing the bro making a beat or going on a rant feels strange. Even starting the podcast with a greeting feels off.

But I know Kels would want me to keep going — so keep going I will.

This episode, I’ve got a brilliant guest: CJ. She’s a wife, mum, teacher, friend — and so much more. She’s also faced her own battles with mental health. We dive into her journey, how it’s shaped her, where she’s at now, and the impact she’s making on others.

It’s a fun, thoughtful kōrero — and CJ’s voice is pure warmth for your ears.

More episodes coming soon. Hold me accountable, whānau!

  • Grizz and Lavanya hit the gym hard!
    Jun 28 2025

Did you know this is the 82nd episode!

So happy to have two amazing people on the show. Honestly two people I could talk to together or alone for hours.

Its my cousin Grizz and his super cool wife Lavanya.

We talk about hitting the gym, what made them start, the challenges they have had and what music keeps them pumping iron.

We also jump into the most amazing story of Lavanya getting back surgery days before her wedding, how amazing India is and what was it like meeting each others families for the first time.

Will totally get these two on again.

You should check them out on social media:
