  • David Diamond - Transformative theatre coach
    May 2 2025
David J. Diamond has spent more than 25 years lighting fires under artists—in the best way possible. He’s a theatre director-turned-career coach who helps creatives figure out not just how to “make it,” but how to make it matter. He got his start in the buzzing nightlife of NYC, running lights and sound in clubs before stepping into leadership roles at some of the biggest theatre organisations around. As Executive Director of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation in the ‘90s, he created game-changing programs, published must-have resources, and doubled the organisation’s reach. Not too shabby. Since 2001, David’s been a transformative coach for artists who are ready to go deeper—not just in their craft, but in how they live. He’s worked with everyone from fresh-out-of-school playwrights to seasoned directors who’ve hit a wall, helping them align their creative dreams with real-life joy and purpose. He’s also a global connector. David co-founded La MaMa Umbria in Italy, where artists from around the world come together for workshops, retreats, and pizza-fuelled breakthroughs. He’s done work in Serbia, Kenya, Iraq, Russia, and beyond—always with a focus on community, cultural exchange, and creativity that crosses borders. Along the way, he’s taught at Columbia and Pace, led workshops at schools like Yale, CalArts, and Carnegie Mellon, and even mentored theatre artists on U.S. Army bases in Europe (yes, really). During the pandemic, he launched Conversations for Theatre Artists—a free series that kept creatives inspired and connected through tough times. David’s the guy you call when you want to figure out what’s next, what matters, and how to make art that means something. He’s got the chops, the heart, and the playlists to prove it. • Vanessa Perry - The abundant nature artist and photographer
    May 2 2025
Vanessa is an artist who paints and takes photos, but it’s more than that. Her work feels like remembering something you never knew you forgot. It’s textured and layered and often a bit mysterious—in a good way. She lives by the sea in the southeast of England, and that’s a big deal in her work. Water is her thing. Not just how it looks, but how it moves and sounds and feels. The way it disappears and comes back. The way it holds things. Vanessa’s process is kind of like archaeology but with feelings. She doesn’t always know what the piece is going to be until it starts becoming itself. She uses oil paint and plaster and starts with instinct more than planning. A lot of her photography is black and white, which makes it all about light and shapes and the in-between bits. People say her work is calming but also full of emotion. Some call it “Vanessence,” which honestly sounds like a perfume, but also kind of fits. Vanessa thinks that when you look at her work, you’re part of it. You bring your story, and the art brings its own, and something happens in the middle. • Joe Mangrum
    Apr 16 2025
Joe Mangrum is an internationally recognised artist known for his vibrant sand paintings and immersive installations. Based in New York City, he has created over a thousand large-scale, ephemeral sand artworks in public spaces across the world, captivating audiences with bold colour, intricate detail, and spontaneous execution. Born in Florissant, Missouri, Mangrum studied Fine Art at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. After graduating, he travelled extensively across North America, exploring natural landscapes and indigenous sites that deeply shaped his artistic direction. He began by making ephemeral artworks with collected flowers and plants, reflecting his growing interest in impermanence and the natural world. In 1995, Mangrum settled in San Francisco, where his work expanded to include found objects, technology, and environmental themes. His first solo installation was presented at San Francisco State University. Over time, his visual language evolved into a fusion of urban patterning, marine life, botanical motifs, and cross-cultural symbolism—all delivered in vivid “Pop Art” colour. Mangrum’s signature sand paintings are created entirely by hand, using a unique method of pouring coloured sand in layers—sometimes with precise, close-up lines, other times with diffused gestures from above. These works are both intricate and fleeting, drawing on influences from street art, mandalas, and natural systems. In 2003, he received the Lorenzo de Medici Award in New Media at the Florence Biennale for his piece Fragile. Since then, his work has been exhibited widely, including at the Museum of Arts and Design and the Asia Society in New York, the de Young Museum in San Francisco, the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami, the Sunshine Museum in Beijing, and the Doe Museum in the Netherlands. Highlights include his 24-hour performance installation Asynchronous Syntropy at the Museum of Arts and Design’s “Swept Away” exhibition, and his participation in Watch Your Step at The Flag Art Foundation. He has also exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery Rotunda in Washington D.C. and undertaken residencies at the de Young Museum, Ashe Cultural Center (New Orleans), and Red Gate Gallery (Beijing). In 2018, Mangrum was commissioned by designer Prabal Gurung to create a sand installation for New York Fashion Week. He has also completed permanent public works, including a sand painting embedded into the pavement in San Francisco’s Mission District. His work has been commissioned by festivals such as Coachella and Art Basel Miami, and collected by private and institutional patrons around the globe. A committed educator, Mangrum has given talks and workshops at the School of Visual Arts, SUNY Geneseo, Adelphi University, and the United Nations International School, among others. He frequently works with students and has presented in both museum and classroom settings. Mangrum is also an advocate for environmental and humanitarian causes, supporting initiatives such as Love For Japan, Riverkeeper Alliance, and World Environment Day. His work has been featured on Sesame Street, in PBS’s Spark, Humans of New York, The New York Times, CNN, LA Times, and the UK’s Antennae Journal. From sidewalks to galleries, Joe Mangrum transforms spaces into living canvases—inviting viewers to pause, engage, and reflect on the beauty of impermanence. • Parama Roy Bardhan - Bharatanatyam performer
    Apr 15 2025
Parama Roy Bardhan is a distinguished Bharatanatyam performer whose journey from a small town near Kolkata to international stages reflects both her passion for Indian classical dance and her unwavering perseverance. Born and raised in Khardah, a suburb of Kolkata, Parama was introduced to dance at the age of four. Immersed in an artistic environment, she explored various forms of expression before devoting herself to Bharatanatyam, training under the respected Guru Sri Pradeepta Niyogi for over 12 years. She also briefly studied Kathak, but Bharatanatyam remained her true calling. The premature loss of her father shifted her focus to academics, leading her to pursue a B.Tech. in Software Engineering. Determined to become self-reliant, she built a career in the tech industry. After marrying in 2014, she relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, where she continued working full-time in software while quietly holding on to her passion for dance. In 2019, Parama revived her relationship with Bharatanatyam, re-entering the world of performance after a significant hiatus. By 2021, she was once again performing on stage—initially within Indian community events and then, increasingly, on mainstream multicultural platforms across the United States. Standing out as a solo classical performer in a space typically dominated by group presentations, Parama brought Bharatanatyam to broader audiences. Her performances at events such as the Cobb County International Festival and the Johns Creek International Festival earned widespread appreciation. In one instance, she was the only artist to represent India among participants from eight countries. Her solo presentation of Thillana drew attention not only from audiences but also from media outlets including Appen Media and the Marietta Daily Journal. Her path, however, was not without setbacks. Early in her performance journey in the U.S., she was discouraged when political interference overshadowed talent at a professional competition. Rather than give up, she used the experience as fuel, applying to high-level national and international festivals and competitions. Her persistence was rewarded with recognition from the Indian Cultural Council, the Australian Council, and the U.S. Arts Council. One of her proudest honours was receiving the Best Traditional Dancer – Professional Category from the Australian Cultural Heritage Council. Beyond performance, Parama is deeply committed to education and cultural exchange. She has conducted demonstrations in schools, introducing the discipline and storytelling power of Bharatanatyam to young learners from diverse backgrounds. She has also gained praise as a choreographer, crafting performances that bridge tradition and contemporary relevance. For Parama, Bharatanatyam is more than a performance art—it is a holistic discipline that nurtures physical vitality, emotional expression, and spiritual focus. She speaks passionately about its benefits, from cardiovascular health to meditative awareness and the power of connecting deeply with emotion through movement. With over 17 years of dedication to the art, Parama Roy Bardhan has established herself as a passionate cultural ambassador. Her journey is a testament to resilience, devotion, and the ability of classical art to connect people across cultures and continents. • Rama Kshirsagar - Arts manager and curator, Bharatanatyam Dancer
    Apr 12 2025
Rama’s path doesn’t follow the usual straight line. It’s more like... a spiral. Or maybe a dance. She grew up in Pune, and from a young age was completely immersed in Bharatanatyam—not just as a hobby, but as a kind of language. One she could speak fluently with her body when words felt like too much. She trained at Kalakshetra Foundation in Chennai for six whole years. That’s not the kind of thing you casually do. It’s deep work—discipline, detail, doing the same movement hundreds of times until it feels like second nature (or third). She graduated with a Diploma and a Post-Diploma in Bharatanatyam, and everyone probably thought she'd stay on stage forever. But she didn’t. While learning how to perform, Rama realised she was just as drawn to what happens off stage—the planning, the structure, the weird quiet thrill of making an event run smoothly. Managing performers, coordinating audiences, troubleshooting silently in the background... it made sense to her in a way that dancing alone didn’t. So, she did what she does best: changed direction with full commitment. She joined Shreya Nagarajan Singh Arts Development Consultancy in 2021 as an intern, learned loads, and then got promoted to Programme Coordinator. That job meant spreadsheets and schedules, sure, but also conversations, intuition, tiny details that made all the difference. It was work that required care, and she cared a lot. In the middle of all this, she decided to study Human Resources Management at Fergusson College, probably because people systems are like choreographies in their own right—patterns, dynamics, interactions. It all fits together in her head. Since then, she’s been working freelance as an Arts Manager and Curator, mostly in the performing arts space. She’s collaborated with organisations like Kalasadhak, but also taken on her own projects. She speaks Hindi and British English, but also—more importantly—she listens. To artists, to collaborators, to the vibes in the room that no one’s really putting into words. She doesn’t really chase visibility. She’d rather build things that work and feel good for everyone involved. If you meet her at an event, she might be quietly fixing something that no one else noticed was broken. Or just... observing. Processing. Planning the next thing. She’s not flashy. But she’s there. Making it all happen. Asa Leininger is an actor, writer, educator, and all-around storyteller who thrives at the intersection of art, empathy, and a little bit of chaos. With a Magna Cum Laude degree in Theatre and History from Missouri State University, he’s spent the last decade performing in everything from gritty plays to full-blown musicals, while also writing fiction, teaching Hamlet, and helping young people find their voice—sometimes all in the same week. Asa's work spans stages, classrooms, and communities. He’s performed in over 30 productions, taught across the U.S. and abroad, volunteered with the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic, and currently lives in Catalonia as a TEFL conversation assistant.
