  • David J. Diamond has spent more than 25 years lighting fires under artists—in the best way possible. He’s a theatre director-turned-career coach who helps creatives figure out not just how to “make it,” but how to make it matter. He got his start in the buzzing nightlife of NYC, running lights and sound in clubs before stepping into leadership roles at some of the biggest theatre organisations around. As Executive Director of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation in the ‘90s, he created game-changing programs, published must-have resources, and doubled the organisation’s reach. Not too shabby. Since 2001, David’s been a transformative coach for artists who are ready to go deeper—not just in their craft, but in how they live. He’s worked with everyone from fresh-out-of-school playwrights to seasoned directors who’ve hit a wall, helping them align their creative dreams with real-life joy and purpose. He’s also a global connector. David co-founded La MaMa Umbria in Italy, where artists from around the world come together for workshops, retreats, and pizza-fuelled breakthroughs. He’s done work in Serbia, Kenya, Iraq, Russia, and beyond—always with a focus on community, cultural exchange, and creativity that crosses borders. Along the way, he’s taught at Columbia and Pace, led workshops at schools like Yale, CalArts, and Carnegie Mellon, and even mentored theatre artists on U.S. Army bases in Europe (yes, really). During the pandemic, he launched Conversations for Theatre Artists—a free series that kept creatives inspired and connected through tough times.
