It was okay.

It was okay, I felt like the stories ended too soon. I was wanting more to happen.

Good short stories

Women who think they have it all . This is a good book to listen to while exercising.

Underwhelming

Read this in honor of International Women's Day but found it underwhelming. The short stories were meant to depict women coming out on top despite their choices and mistakes. But I just found it mostly depressing.

Story collection

I liked the first story and the last one. I wasn’t crazy about the others . Each features a woman “on top” but the meaning of that term is different in each story.

An odd collection

An odd collection of short stories. Some of them I liked, some of them I didn't.

Not my type of reading

I'm sure some would like it but not my style.
it felt like a collection of gossip.

It was OK

The book wasn’t a waste of time. I appreciate the short stories. The characters made me feel sad for them. It seems they were looking for something outside to fulfill them, rather than looking inside of them . Each one felt they were on top, but were they.

On top of what, exactly?

The question is - on top of what, exactly? I wouldn’t say any of these characters were living their best lives. Not leaning in so much as leaning over, contorting themselves to society’s expectations and prioritizing men’s wishes - with said pressures and expectations internalized and reactions to such driving many life decisions.

People are complicated, and the writing reflects that. But I wouldn’t call this an uplifting read.

Weird women

Don’t be fooled by the title. I would not want to know any of these women.
