Sam is stuck with the worst job of her career: manage the comeback of self-centered pop star Margo Metal, who might be using black magic to stage her big comeback. Meanwhile, someone is following Sam, which raises questions about who she can really trust in Mount Hazel. Can Sam use her powers to solve the murder of Martha Hope before someone else gets hurt?

Very very good

Within her first day in town she runs into her mother and family. She learns she is a witch. There is a mystery of a missing teenager that kicks off the main plotline and moves the story forward. Sam finds herself in the middle of dark happenings. The book unfolds from there.
This is a clean story with interesting characters. It is a series starter with world building and the main character learning she has magic. The only thing I noticed was the book seems like it was written in episodes. Some of the background on the main character is repeated in the book.
This was fun to listen to. I am interested in the next book. I requested and received a free copy of the audio in exchange for a honest review.
Great Story!

It starts fairly simple - Sam grasps at an opportunity to visit her home town and finally meet her estranged mother while working as a PR for a pop star who wants to make a big comeback... What Samantha doesn't expect is to find out magic is real, she herself is a witch - more powerful than anyone could have imagined - and to have to solve a murder case in which magic plays an essential part... All that while tackling her new infatuation with Peter, an investigative reporter for a local newspaper, and her growing attachment to the family she has just met...
The plot is multilayered, with two or three subplots that intermingle with the main plotline and form an important background for it. It's also fast, with a lot of things happening at once, with events unfolding at a racing speed and sudden turns and twists that completely change your perspective on things:)
The main characters have distinct, complex personalities, and secrets they hide from others. They are memorable, relatable and definitely interesting.
Narration by Ms Gonzales is very good; she does different voices really well (I liked Margo's voice a lot:)) and makes the story come to life to such an extent that you would never want to stop listening, even late at night (like me:)).

Great book

While dealing with the drama of a former rock star, the reappearance of a philandering former heartbreak and the mysterious death of two young people associated with Margo's haunted mansion, Sam also grows closer to her younger cousin Tamsin and meets a possible love interest in the form of local newspaper reporter (and bartender and barista) Peter. Although the book is filled with much comedy and lighthearted banter between characters, the paranormal elements are dark and disturbing. Sam senses an evil presence in Mount Hazel and possibly even closer to her rock star. This investigation leads her to put her life in danger multiple times, and the ending is a true nail-biter. I found Sam to be a delightful character, and I loved all the secondary characters, both friend and foe. Between the mystery and chilly paranormal elements of the story, and the dry wit of the author, Witches of the Wood is a winner.
Stacy Gonzalez's narration outstanding. She has a young, light voice with a slightly bouncy delivery that I found charming. She differentiates extremely well between characters, and I loved her interpretation of Sam's sarcastic personality. I would have really enjoyed this story regardless of the narrator, but I think Gonzalez moved the book from great to fabulous, and I will definitely be watching for more of her narrations in the future.
