Poul Anderson
Poul Anderson began his career during one of the Golden Ages of the genre and continued to write and remain popular into the 21st century. He also authored several works of fantasy, and a huge number of short stories. He received numerous awards for his writing.
For this story, in a time long ago when pulp magazines were on the wane, an author sometimes needed to tweak his story to fit the requirements of the issue. Here is a wonderful example. Planet Stories specialized in Sword and Planet stories so Anderson, writing under the pen name A. A. Craig - since another of his stories was also in the same issue - blends all the excitement readers of the magazine expected Witch of the Demon Seas while also using magic with a Science Fiction tilt.
Anderson includes Wizards, Witches, Monsters, Fish-people, blackmail, battles and scheming, all taking place on a faraway planet in this fast-paced and engaging tale. No wonder he was the winner of seven Hugo Awards and three Nebula Awards.

What did you love best about Witch of the Demon Seas?
Poul Anderson is one of my favorite authors but I had never heard of this novella.Glad I got it. A bit different than Anderson's usual type of story...more "Conan on another Planet" than straight sci-fi but, as usual for Anderson, well written and a good story.Narrator did a good job, too. What other book might you compare Witch of the Demon Seas to and why?
Conan books by Robert HowardHave you listened to any of Jim Roberts’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes..Does his usual good job.If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Ah....I've leave that to the movie makers. Would make a good one, though.Any additional comments?
A bit odd that a review talks about the Kindle version having a format problem. I've got it...and it doesn't. Maybe they fixed it after the review.Great story by a master.
