In Proof, Adam Rogers reveals alcohol as a miracle of science, going deep into the pleasures of making and drinking booze—and the effects of the latter. The people who make and sell alcohol may talk about history and tradition, but alcohol production is really powered by physics, molecular biology, organic chemistry, and a bit of metallurgy—and our taste for those products is a melding of psychology and neurobiology.

Historia
Forget Starbucks - there's an entire world of coffee waiting to be discovered. Around two billion cups of coffee are consumed across the world every day. Second only to crude oil, it’s the world’s largest traded commodity. The origin of coffee is shrouded in legend, and no one knows for sure exactly how it was discovered (although its discovery is largely attributed to a herd of energetic Ethiopian goats in AD 850). It’s little wonder, then, that coffee is so steeped in culture, with a rich history and a complex social and cultural narrative.

Award-winning wine critic Alice Feiring presents an all-new way to look at the world of wine. While grape variety is important, a lot can be learned about wine by looking at the source: the ground in which it grows.

This is the story of the world according to beer, a toast to flavors born of necessity and place - in Belgian monasteries, rundown farmhouses, and the basement nanobrewery next door. So pull up a barstool and raise a glass to 5,000 years of fermented magic.

Historia
In an engaging blend of science and story, Robinson describes how and when we transformed the food in the produce aisles. Wild apples, for example, have from three to 100 times more antioxidants than Galas and Honeycrisps. How do we begin to recoup the losses of essential nutrients? By "eating on the wild side" - choosing present-day fruits and vegetables that come closest to the nutritional bounty of their wild ancestors. Robinson explains that many of these jewels of nutrition are hiding in plain sight in our supermarkets, farmers markets, and U-pick orchards.

Are you looking for a simple and effective method that you can do at home and have a trip whenever you want in a few weeks? Very often people rely on strangers when it comes to hallucinogenic mushrooms, spending a lot of money, and always risking when this is illegal. In fact, since besides being illegal, they are also not monitored, there is a risk that you may ingest a poisonous mushroom or the wrong type, sometimes with very high risks connected to a fatal overdose or a bad reaction. The author wanted to explain the easiest and most effective way to grow your own mushrooms at home.

Informative without being too lengthy
After looking at many other books that were much longer, I picked this one because it was less than 2 hours.
It had everything I could learn without actually tasting anything. If you want to increase the your knowledge, instead of getting one of the longer books on the subject get this. If you still want to know more, listen to this again, there's more here than you'll be able to remember after a single reading.
