Resumen del Editor

The long-awaited conclusion to the Starlight & Shadows trilogy is now in audio.

The release of Windwalker brought to a close a series first begun by New York Times best-selling author Elaine Cunningham ten years ago. Following the recently released recovers of Daughter of the Drow and Tangled Webs, the first two titles in the series, this audiobook is not to be missed.

story good, narration horrible

It's as if the narrator couldn't be bothered to actually read the book ahead of time.. she was overly perky in all the wrong times and tried to be gruff in equally wrong times. I can't believe she can make a living being a narrator. she is not a sight reader, her pronunciation of some of the words made me cringe. she took a book that I have enjoyed reading myself and ruined it. It was as if she was reading to A bunch of first graders.

Windwalker

I have always loved this story. I have all un paperback. The audio performance however so annoying it makes me cringe at every miss pronounced word and name, Bajorn.? Seriously how is this acceptable? And always the long a sound. Is this really so clueless? I dont care how many awards she’s won, this performance is quite unacceptable!

Wait for a new narrator

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Story is typical Forgotten Realms. If you are a fan, you will deal with the flaws in the reading. The narrator tries her heart out, but can't read to save her life... mispronunciations, pitch and tone inconsistent with character, intent, meaning... very difficult to enjoy with all this variation... men sound like women, questions sound like exclamations, pauses misplaced and ... did I mention mispronunciations? And the sound editor needs a new headset... the re-recorded patched portions are too obvious and often distracting...

Would you be willing to try another book from Elaine Cunningham? Why or why not?

For love of the series, I did, and will again.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The inept reading is at best something you just live with... at worst you scream the mispronounced word correctly to the traffic you are sitting in while listening.

Do you think Windwalker needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

There can always be more in the Forgotten Realms

William Shattner

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The performance of the person reading this audio book was horrid. The worst audio book I have listened to yet. Many pregnant pauses... The person reading this obviously has no interest in the subject matter as she has no idea how to pronounce most of the names and stumbles through most of the book. I had to move the speed to 1.5 to stand her talking. The story is awesome, I have read it, but if I could I would get my credit back.

What did you like best about this story?

The story rocks

Would you be willing to try another one of Dara Rosenberg’s performances?

Not in the least bit

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

The performance annoys me.

Going out with a whimper

Inferior in almost ever way to Tangle Webs; Windwalker is a crushingly disappointing conclusion (if you can even call it that) to the Starlight & Shadows series. The story goes all over the place and just seems interesting is wrapping up loose ends as quickly as possible rather than telling a real story. Side characters unceremoniously drop like flies, we spend long chapters of the book with under developed villains bumbling after Liriel to little climax. Side characters dominate the story and the Drow Princess is subdued and dull and hardly does anything except get pulled along by others most of this book. Unlike previous installment the D&D setting becomes a millstone dragging the story down with pre-existing characters we hardly know rather than helping to fill the story with robust flavor and depth. After waiting so long to finally got to the much talked of lands of Rashaman, the new location is painfully dull and interesting as are its people.

The story's climax is a whimper, totally unsatisfying and despite the narratives interest in killing off characters to tie up loose end in the end it feel like none of the important issues and questions have been dealt with. I think they may have been trying to set up a new status quo for another series of book but they never materialized so we're left with this for a finale.

The audio quality is one again a negative but if you've put up with it through the first two books in the series you should know what to expect. Dara Rosenberg actually is considerably improved by this installment and the audio quality might be slightly better than previous recording however the editing is just as bad as ever.

The narrator remains terrible

If you've reached the reviews for Audible's production of Windwalker, no doubt you've already seen reviews for the two preceding books but it must be said again, having toughed it out through all three: Dara Rosenberg is the worst narrator. The story is otherwise good.

As you have no doubt read in previous reviews the reasons that Dara Rosenberg is terrible at reading books, this review will instead focus on the degree of terribleness she exhibits.

Merriam-Webster describes 44 synonyms for feces in its thesaurus, ranging from the clinical to the juvenile. If asked to describe which best describes Rosenberg's skill as a narrator, one would be forced to use all of them. There is a persistent myth that humans only use 10% of the immense computing power of the human brain-- of course, when narrating, Rosenberg turns her brain off entirely. When a spell such as Dissonant Whispers or Mind Blank calls for incoherent noise as a verbal component, it would not be inappropriate to recount exactly a passage as narrated by Dara Rosenberg.

I hope everyone who isn't named Dara Rosenberg has a nice day.
