Resumen del Editor

A startlingly large number of women who want to breastfeed have to stop before they are ready, leaving them feeling a range of negative emotions, including grief, anger, guilt, shame, and frustration. They often blame themselves. But in a society that places little value on breastfeeding and mothers' feelings, their painful stories are often swept under the carpet to the detriment of women's mental health and experience of new motherhood.

Professor Amy Brown has researched what breastfeeding really means to women, how they can feel when things don't go according to plan, and importantly, how we can change things for the next generation of women. Her findings make fascinating listening for anyone with personal experience of breastfeeding difficulties, those who support mothers to make infant-feeding decisions that are right for them, or those who simply want to be part of changing the conversation.

Impact and healing

My Breast feeding trauma was 30 years ago, but is never behind me. I had sadness and heartache that no one around me understood. I needed this book-listen like a blood transfusion. Hearing validation and experiences of other mothers lifted my pain and restored my heart.

Absolutely revolutionary read!!!

HOLY WOW. I’m an aspiring postpartum doula with an interest in becoming a certified lactation consultant one day, and this book solidified every desire I’ve ever felt to pursue both of those goals. It was concise, well researched and written, beautifully narrated, and indescribably eye opening. I laughed and cried. If you have had a complicated breastfeeding journey, are a birth worker, are interested in the topic(s) of infant feeding and/or maternal mental health, and ESPECIALLY if someone you love wants or is attempting to breastfeed, please read this book. It will show you exactly how to support them. 10/10 recommend.

Holy shit- this is amazing

I am a new mama who was not able to establish breastfeeding. This threw me into a wild depression and listening to this HURT, but it also helped me so very much. I wish every health care professional would read it.
