But Sebastian quickly realizes that the man had accumulated more than his fair share of enemies, including Major Hugh Chandler, a close friend of Sebastian’s who once saved his life. Sebastian also discovers that the pious Lord Preston may have been much more dangerous than those he sought to redeem.

As dark clouds press down on the city and the rains fall unceasingly, two more victims are found, one strangled and one shot, with ominous tarot cards placed on their bodies. The killer is sending a gruesome message and Sebastian is running out of time to decipher it before more lives are lost and a fraught post-war London explodes.

I really like the new narrator

The story gives the new narrator a fair chance to give the listeners a new sound for all the characters. The stories are usually so good that the listeners can adjust to the changes but I really do like this new voice. The story avoids the full range of the usual characters in a full challenge to our memory and understanding of some characters. It could be just the story but C S. Harris seems to care for her stories and the listeners. We have had made complaints and this narrator seems to change the expectations by simply changing gender voice and the comparisons are moot.. Very good story as always and if I am right about the author's concern for the listeners comfort- thank you.

The Newest St. Cyr Mystery Novel

I am always happy seeing a new addition to this mystery series. But first, I loved the narrator, Mr. Kiteley who has a rather soothing voice (I loved the other narrators too, all of them have been fantastic) and has that quality that keeps me wanting to listen. He did a good job of varying the voices of the various characters. Before looking at who the narrator was, I swore he sounded just like one of my favorite Doctor Who actors - Paul McGann - or similar enough, I mistook him for the other actor briefly. He brings his own dimensional depth to the story.

The newest novel in the Sebastian St. Cyr series has not disappointed me. I love all the historical background woven into the story and the small history lecture at the end of the book. It also had me guessing just about to the end who the culprit (s) were. Though one of them really did surprise me.

All I can say is Keep 'em' coming! :)

Wonderful like all the books in this series.

Finally a narrator worthy of following Davina Porter. Harris' books are so darn well researched, and written, that it spoils me for books after reading them. This one is no exception. I can't wait for the next one. I may have to start the series again in the meantime. I have already done so several times.

The perfect narrator for this series

Fascinating history, engaging characters, and intriguing plots, this continues to be one of my favorite series to follow. And the range of the new narrator is just so pleasing.

Entertaining & Informative

I’ve read all the books and love the character Sebastian. As the stories grew the other characters became dear to me as well. They are each multi dimensional and the plots are as well. Suspenseful, touching amid a description of old London that makes me almost feel the rain or the sun. Well written with an undercurrent of history and facts about people and places, how they survived or how they died, tragically and fittingly.

Where was the exhilaration in this one?

The continuing saga of Sebastian St. Cyr, Lord Devlin and his wife Hero. I always look forward to an exhilarating story each time I pick up a book in this series. I absolutely love the characters, the time period and the bits of history worked I to the story. This one though, felt less exciting than the previous books. It felt watered down to me. I'm not saying the story was not good, just that the level of excitement I usually feel was not there. We meet little Miss Guinevere, Sebastian's new baby daughter and of course Hero gets to shot someone. I think the underlying problem I had with this one was getting used to a new narrator. So used to Davina Porter narrating, that switching to a male narrator may have thrown me off. Tom Kiteley does a fair job but it will be awhile before I settle into his style. Overall this was a good book, I loved the underlying storyline, especially the historical connections. A few curves there near the end , making it a great addition to the series.

Personalities of the characters changed with the new narrator.

The story drug more with this narrator. Even the way Hero talks with her children. Story Just didn’t grab me like the previous 19.

Not as intense as earlier titles

This book wasn’t as intense as many of the earlier books, but it was still enjoyable. The mystery was still active and full of interesting details.

The more things change the more they stay the same~

I enjoyed every subject and every chapter in this latest StCyr novel.
I’ve read them all and can’t wait for the next.

Really great listen

Another great addition to the Sebastian St. Cyr series! Love this historical series! I anxiously wait for each new release! Ms. Harris’ writing draws you into the characters and you feel as if you are right there in England putting the clues together to solve the mystery. I can’t believe this is book 20 and it is just as good as book 1! I was a little concerned about a new narrator, but Tom did a fabulous job and I hope he continues to narrate the series. I will be following and will mark my calendar for book 21! Can’t wait!! Thank you Ms Harris for providing so many enjoyable reading and listening hours!!
