1916. The two-street town of Wallace is not exactly what Ellen Webster had in mind when she accepted a teaching position in Wyoming, but within a year’s time she’s fallen in love—both with the High Plains and with a handsome cowboy named Charlie Bacon. Life is not easy in the flat, brown corner of the state where winter blizzards are unforgiving and the summer heat relentless. But Ellen and Charlie face it all together, their relationship growing stronger with each shared success, and each deeply felt tragedy.

During World War II, a family finds life turned upside-down when the government opens a Japanese internment camp in their small Colorado town. After a young girl is murdered, all eyes turn on the newcomers. Rennie has just turned thirteen and until this time, life has pretty much been predictable and fair. But the winds of change are coming, and with them, a shift in her perspective and a discovery of secrets that can destroy even the most sacred things. Part thriller, part historical novel, Tallgrass by Sandra Dallas is a riveting exploration of the darkest—and best—parts of the human heart.

Historia
It is 1863 and Emily Blue Hatchett has been told by her father that, come spring, their family will leave their farm, family and friends in Quincy, Illinois, and travel the Overland Trail to a new home in Golden, Colorado. Emmy and her mom have mixed feelings about the trip and are saddened by all they must leave behind. The journey by wagon train is long and full of hardships, and Emmy's experiences along the way bring the period of westward expansion, as well as issues facing women, to life for young listeners.

Historia

Story Revolving around a mountain town avalanche in Colorado that build strong characters revolving around that time
It was rather difficult to remember each of the characters in the end as I had to go back in my memory to determine who they were and what happened. The reader did not accentuate different sounds for the people Who were talking speaking. I had trouble determining who was the speaker. It was a good story about avalanches and how people cared for one another. It was a good story about peoples lives who had horrendous and overwhelming times that they had through.

not her best
story seemed to jump around a bit and some places seemed unrelated to the others. I like this author a lot but this one just didn't seem to be one of her best I had trouble following the story sometimes

Great story, interesting characters, set in my beloved home state. Each Sandra Dallas book is alike but different. This one's a keeper.

Disappointed
Simple, trite slow story. Good narration could not redeem this one. Depressing unbelievable storylines and poor character development.

Good
I like Sandra Dallas books but I really like this one. Maybe because of the kids that pulls at your heart or maybe because of the backstory of each of the parents. Either way this is one of my favorites.

Loved the story of personal journey and how they came together each in there own way
Other switches between people and makes it hard to keep them separated. Eventually all worked together
