Chick lit!

The migration west is portrayed in the voice of a 10 year old girl. Emmy Blue learns to quilt along the way, making a quilt for her wax-faced doll. Faced at first with hating the task, she becomes accustomed to stitching while the family walks west.
Pretty typical Sandra Dallas fare. While some themes (including the loss of friends and domestic violence) are introduced, they are never fully developed and come to quick and convenient endings.
Good book for a road trip but that's about all.

Great for all ages!

If you would like a sweet, gentle book, The Quilt Walk is for you. Although written for middle age children, it has many endearing qualities. It is the story of Emma Blue who travels by wagon train with her family to seek a new start in Golden, CO. Emma relates stories of their travels across the Great Plains as they travel from Illinois to Colorado. The author shows a gentler side of their encounter with the Indians as well as the realities of all the different personalities that make up the men, women and children traveling in their caravan.

I LOVE THIS BOOK!

Everything so far on audio book has gotten better and better for me. Each book after another, better and better. Write now I'm thinking NOTHING could be as good as the Quilt Walk.

Historical fiction

I really enjoyed listening to this story. The main character Emmy Lou had a lot of character and there was plenty of entertaining scenes. My only draw back is the parts where they talk about physical abuse on one of the wives along the wagon train. Since this is suppose to be a children’s chapter book for ages 8-12, I thought it was not appropriate content.
