Russell Means was the most controversial American Indian leader of our time, and in Where White Men Fear to Tread, he recounts pivotal moments of his life. Means did everything possible to dramatize and justify the American Indian aim of self-determination — from storming Mount Rushmore and seizing Plymouth Rock to running for President in 1988. Perhaps most notoriously, in 1973, Means led a 71-day takeover of Wounded Knee, South Dakota.

Featuring the reading of a traditional Lakota prayer, this visionary autobiography by a magnetic personality will fascinate, educate, and inspire listeners to learn more about Native American activism and history.

I am Washoe, Paiute, Navajo, Mexican, Spanish and Chinese. I grew up on and off the rez hearing stories about Russell Means. From family and there friends at rez parties that were there with him. I didnt which ones to believe so I guess it's good thing I dont remember them but I wish I did now. It is great hearing some of the stories from him. The only thing I didnt agree with is the multi-family thing. This book needs to be common knowledge though. Thanks Russell Means I understand your message.

Russell Means was such an inspiring spiritual man. Hearing him recount his activism within AIM and his spirit and conviction in fighting for his culture, fighting for the treaties to be honored was moving.

Uncle Russell is in death as he was in life .. strong, beautiful and a leader about our people.. for those who are interested in the journey of Russell Means, I would encourage you to listen to this book .. it’s very detailed and amazing how he was able to pack a big chunk of his life in just one book … Thank you Uncle Russell for all that you have done in the struggle of not only our Lakota People, but all Native People on turtle Island… AIM ~>• Any Place, Any Time , Any where •<~
