Acerca de esta escucha

New York Times bestseller John Scalzi flies you to the moon with his most fantastic tale to date: When the Moon Hits Your Eye

The moon has turned into cheese.

Now humanity has to deal with it.

For some it’s an opportunity. For others it’s a moment to question their faith: In God, in science, in everything. Still others try to keep the world running in the face of absurdity and uncertainty. And then there are the billions looking to the sky and wondering how a thing that was always just there is now... something absolutely impossible.

Astronauts and billionaires, comedians and bank executives, professors and presidents, teenagers and terminal patients at the end of their lives -- over the length of an entire lunar cycle, each get their moment in the moonlight. To panic, to plan, to wonder and to pray, to laugh and to grieve. All in a kaleidoscopic novel that goes all the places you’d expect, and then to so many places you wouldn’t.

It’s a wild moonage daydream. Ride this rocket.

Listen to the moon and back
Between conference calls and car-pool pickups, my days are more chaotic than ever—and there is absolutely nothing that allows me to escape my daily life as entertainingly as a new John Scalzi audiobook. The thoughtful blend of humor and heart had me laughing out loud and smiling from ear to ear, from start to finish. The unique combination of Scalzi’s brilliant and witty storytelling and Wil Wheaton’s incredible narration is science fiction at its finest. Whether you’ve ever wondered how you’d react if the moon turned into cheese or not, this production will entertain, delight and inspire you. —Esther B., Audible Editor

Meh is right. Usually love his stuff. Not gonna recommend. Wish I had loved it.

Not his best

This amazing story of the ridiculousness and the beauty of the human condition is so wonderfully written and narrated that I was able to truly escape the real world's troubles and it allowed me to reflect on so many things because I was relieved of that burden. Amazing narration and story, cannot recommend enough.

Yeah but what kind is it

I think I’ve listened to nearly all of John Scalzi’s books, and When the Moon Hits Your Eye might be one of my favorites. It’s a collection of short stories set in a world where, without any real explanation, the moon suddenly turns into cheese.

Scalzi even notes in the acknowledgments that it’s not meant to be super scientific. Instead, it reads like a thought experiment ripped straight from Randall Munroe’s What If? series—except rather than laying out the perfect scientific explanation of what would happen, it explores the chaos and absurdity through the eyes of the people actually living in the middle of it all.

Interestingly, both Scalzi and Munroe use Wil Wheaton as their audiobook narrator, which adds a fun thread of connection between the two.

All in all, it’s part science fiction, part satire, and completely entertaining. I loved it and can’t recommend it enough.

Fun and unconventional

Missed expectations. I actually liked the stories—I just wish I’d known that the book wasn’t really a novel like Scalzi’s other novels. It’s an exploration of how humans would deal with the premise. We sometimes revisit characters and their storylines, but it’s not a main story with subplots.

Short stories around a premise

I enjoyed every moment of this book. It just worked. If there was anyone who could write a book about something as silly as the moon turning into cheese and make it freaking work, it's John Scalzi. Will Wheaton did a great job on the narration, as usual. Highly recommend and hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Quintessential Scalzi

This had everything you’d expect in a Scalzi book, unique, sarcastic characters, an improbable situation and a nod to what is going on in current society. Plus, Wil Wheaton reads it—and what can I say? The man is talented!

Pure Scalzi!

The premise is ridiculous, but the author makes it work, and Wheaton’s narration is top notch, as always

Another fun Scalzi/Wheaton combo

For a very complex story the ending happened in micro seconds. It made the book feel incomplete to me. I love John Scalzi and Wil Wheaton. They are a great team. But I think there could have been a more satisfying ending.

Good book but the end was disappointing.

I almost gave up on this book at a certain point. Then it won me back. Make your own decision. I’ve havnt returned a single Scalzi book yet (except the old man wars I accidentally purchased as singles then kept as anthologies.) I keep the ones I would share (300+ now.) I’m keeping this one. I love this guys sense of humor. I don’t always agree with his politics, but his writing is heart felt and has that human element that readers like me constantly search for. Thanks for another great read Scalzi.

Gotta love Scalzi

This is the best book I have listened to in a very long time! Can't wait for what is next!

Best cheese based story ever written!
