Acerca de esta escucha

Lanky lizards and rubber chickens, slinkster dogs and Lanka girls - Weetzie Bat knows them all in the glitzy never-never land of L.A. With her blonde flat-top and trendy clothes, Weetzie Bat cruises from high school to neon clubs, looking for her Secret Agent Lover Man. When she meets dark-haired Dirk and his red Pontiac, their search for love is a funky, off-beat fable. And when three wishes come true, their adventures create a modern fairy tale.

Weetzie Bat has been chosen for school reading lists across the nation. It is an ALA Best Book for Young Adults and an ALA Recommended Book for Reluctant Young Adult Readers. Alyssa Bresnahan’s spirited narration highlights the sparkling language and sizzling images of this utterly original book.

Featured Article: Moving Listens About the AIDS Epidemic

The AIDS crisis is a devastating part of history that should never be forgotten. The epidemic led to the death of more than 25 million Americans and contributed to the health struggles of countless others. The audiobooks on this list confront the harsh, heartbreaking realities of the AIDS epidemic. Each of these listens helps commemorate a dark part of our nation’s history and honor those who lost their lives to the bigotry that built barriers to treatment and care.

i appreciate the kind of polyamory that goes on in the back half and the way the writer describes things in an almost timeless way. however i am not personally a fan of the almost (?) fetishization (?) of native american culture, particularly with the way weetzie bat is and that she names her child "cherokee" like what's up with that

subtly weird

Weetzie Bat is a wondrous love letter to art, life and Los Angeles. Ms. Bresnehan handles the material and characters all with such conviction and care that even when sitting down to listen to only a chapter or two one feels compelled to listen to the entirety of her performance.

Being from LA this story rings so true and feels like home in so many ways.

Just lovely

Weetzie Bat is a short and amazing tale. I loved all of the references to the landmarks and hidden places in Los Angeles. Fans of '80's pop culture will enjoy the punk, the kitsch, and the glitter. Francesca Lia Block's writing style demonstrates the value of economy in all aspects of writing. Alyssa Bresnahan's quirky performance is perfection! I would recommend Weetzie Bat to anyone who loves LA and needs a short, fun, creative break away from everyday life.

Shangri-Los Angeles

I love this book and know an old friend who would especially love this book. Even if she never will forgive me for what I did, twenty-five years ago, I wish I could send her a copy. If I had her address, I would send it anonymously, to be sure that she would read it. That is how good this book is. Because “love is a dangerous angel.”

For a Friend

I would have given this book no stars honestly. this had to have been one of the most boring story I have ever read/ listen to. I only finished it cause I kept hoping it would get better or least of a good ending. but it just kept me regretting getting. I'm happy I used my credits to get and didn't actually buy it.

So Boring

The fantastical/mystical story line made it very hard for me to enjoy this book. The characters didn't feel developed to me as they had a limited range of emotions from saddness to absolute- fantasy like love. No anger, callousness, or other ugly emotions that make for complex characters.

Not what I expected.

First, I was unimpressed with the quality of the audio. It sounded like it had been transferred from tape, with pops and hisses. Next, I wonder if I would've enjoyed this story more had I read it in the 80s, when AIDS was still barely spoken of and what seems daring in your 20s just seems flakey in my late 40s. A sweet ending, but underwritten and precious.

Didn't age well?
