Resumen del Editor

In November 1965, some 450 men of the First Battalion, Seventh Cavalry, under the command of Lt. Col. Hal Moore, were dropped by helicopter into a small clearing in the Ia Drang Valley. They were immediately surrounded by 2,000 North Vietnamese soldiers. Three days later, only two and a half miles away, a sister battalion was chopped to pieces. Together, these actions at the landing zones X-Ray and Albany constituted one of the most savage and significant battles of the Vietnam War. How these men persevered - sacrificed themselves for their comrades and never gave up - makes a vivid portrait of war at its most inspiring and devastating.

General Moore and Joseph Galloway, the only journalist on the ground throughout the fighting, have interviewed hundreds of men who fought there, including the North Vietnamese commanders. This devastating account rises above the specific ordeal it chronicles to present a picture of men facing the ultimate challenge, dealing with it in ways they would have found unimaginable only a few hours earlier. It reveals to us, as rarely before, man's most heroic and horrendous endeavor.

Wow

After experiencing a book like this, any type of review I could come up with seems lacking. The sacrifice of the brave men at Landing Zone X-Ray and Albany should never be forgotten. This account retells their story with the attention to detail and respect that it deserves.

Wow

I just finished max Hastings Vietnam which pointedly confirmed My distrustful view of war placed in the hands of a few men obsessed with vanity, control and power.

But resting with cynicism dissavows the equally true reality that combat at times becomes A part of the human experience, which elevates soldiers and their and families to a supreme courage, love and nobility few of us can fully appreciate - irrecardless of politics.

General Moore brings us very personally into the battlefield, the commaraderie, and lives of his soldiers and their young families. He allows the first hand personal accounts of grunts, pilots, artillery men, radio men, medics, and leaders from both sides to bring it home.

The voice talent of Jonathan Davis provides credible audibles to over 100 voices, even Vietnamese generals. This is the most complicated narration I have found in my many Audible books. In all but a few cases, I was not distracted by dissonance from my immersion in the story. Davis enhances it.

Riveting as these many combat stories are, The broader story is only complete following personal accounts of those at home who live with the fear of losing their loved one, only to receive that shattering telegram that starts them on their own odyssey.

It’s a must read, especially for anyone who, like me, has enjoyed the convenience of opinion without the necessity of first-hand experience - thanks to those who have. I could not put it down. The Viet Nam War has its own “Band of Brothers.

Respect

I have a whole newfound respect for those who served in Vietnam. I cannot fathom the daily horrors and memories these men face. True heroes fell who are no longer remembered. This book, and the soldiers herein, have forever changed my life. Thank you for your service.

Play acting voice.

The book was written well with a great historical account to be told. But the readers play acting voices of different soldiers was awful. It was so bad it was distracting to me. Could have done without that.

Excellent

Great book, great lesson about war. I am a Marine and recommend this book to civilians to see what it is really like but also to military to learn mistakes of the past and remember those who came before us...

Great Book but Heavy

It was an exceptional book but it was a heavy read, perhaps as it should be.
