The beautiful way God and His word was introduced through out the story.

This is one of the best books I’ve ever listened to. So beautifully written and such an eye opener. Yes I’ve heard stories of slavery but the way this story was presented it made the history of slavery come alive.

best bookin a long time

This is one of the best books I have "read" in a long time. Amazing narration helps, but this is an incredible story. I loved every minute and while it was hard to hear it was alao ao insightful and helped me draw so many lines between the ending of slavery and post avey oppression by design in this country. This is a must read imo

The truth!

Loved the narrator’s. Rena and Frankie are people I’ll never forget. I will read more by Michelle Shocklee.

Engagingly hard to put down!

There are slice-of-life novels out there that are good...but this story is a different take on the genre. I found myself awake until after 2 am because I couldn't put this one down!

Loved this book

This was a very good and engaging story. I didn’t want to quit listening and finished it in two days. The narrator was excellent.

Intense historical read

I loved the character development, storyline weaving from present to recounting of memories. The heart breaking details of lost love/lost life of “what ifs”.

Moving Story

I love the evolution of the main character. The authenticity of the story was beautiful.

A Must read!

A tragic yet uplifting wonderful story of a women’s life of a life born in slavery and surviving and thriving as freedom arrives in many forms. History and the stories of each person is important as this well written book demonstrates.
