Resumen del Editor

Can it ever get better? This is the question Benjamin Watson is asking. In a country aflame with the fallout from the racial divide - in which Ferguson, Charleston, and the Confederate flag dominate the national news, daily seeming to rip the wounds open ever wider - is there hope for honest and healing conversation? For finally coming to understand each other on issues that are ultimately about so much more than Black and White?

An NFL tight end for the New Orleans Saints and a widely read and followed commentator on social media, Watson has taken the Internet by storm with his remarkable insights about some of the most sensitive and charged topics of our day. Now, in Under Our Skin, Watson draws from his own life, his family legacy, and his role as a father to sensitively and honestly examine both sides of the race debate and appeal to the power and possibility of faith as a step toward healing.

A balanced perspective

I found this book to be very helpful in offering a balanced perspective. It invites you to look inward, outward and upward to solve racial issues. Very thoughtfully written.

Incredibly Insightful For A White Woman From The Suburbs

This book was so insightful to me as a white woman who knows nothing about the perspective of being black in this country. I feel naive to the inclusiveness I felt we all had, and ignorant to the issues black Americans have to deal with. Though it was sometimes hard for me to hear, I am thankful to Benjamin for having the courage to write it and teaching us that Jesus Christ is the only real way we are going to experience true change within ourselves. I wish ALL my friends and family, black and white, would read this book.

A Must Read for Everyone

What did you love best about Under Our Skin?

The candid exploration of race in America and from the from the various views of everyone involved. The acknowledgement that we can't fix the sin that caused the problem but that God can.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ben Watson for his introspective revelations of his own prejudice and his attempts to view the issues from all perspectives. He brings an objectivity to an issue that is so entrenched in an "us and them" mentality.

What does JD Jackson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The reader brings the words to life with a depth and emotion that vividy reflect the joy, sorrow, and gravity of each moment.

If you could give Under Our Skin a new subtitle, what would it be?

Conquering Race and the Divide that Sin Created

A thought-provoking read

A real person’s story is so much more impacting than the polarized views we hear every day on the news. Race in America is a deeply complex issue, and the author doesn’t use hype or give cookie-cutter answers. I appreciated that he talks about racial stereotypes on both sides, seeking to understand the white person’s perspective, while outlining very clearly the black person’s experience. As the author says, racism is not a skin problem, it’s a sin problem. And we all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. This book is real and raw, but it does not leave us without hope. Lots to think about...

A Must Read

This should be a "must read" for elected officials, law enforcement, clergy, etc. Its not blaming certain groups for the divide but gives us insight on how to approach and solve issues. This book encourages us to perform self-assessments not just by race but as humans beings.
